Despite having a rich heritage of art, culture and tradition, 65 per cent miniature artists of Udaipur have left their profession as they don't see any future in it anymore.This includes artists who have given more than 30 years of their life to this profession. Even they are now opting for a different profession to earn their bread and butter.Differently-abled Narendra Singh, who works in the art gallery, said he was facing huge financial crisis. He said, he had been trying to get a job in government schools as painting teacher but failed.Another artist, Minakshi Sharma Kaur said, "I don't think that there is any future in this profession anymore. Thailand Princess attends Manipuri Sangai fest
Thailand's Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn was accorded a warm welcome by Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on her maiden visit to the state on Wednesday. She also witnessed the annual Manipuri Sangai Festival 2018 here.On her arrival at the Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT), the Princess was accorded a warm welcome. She witnessed the mesmerising cultural performances by artists from Manipur and Thailand.Speaking on the occasion, Princess Sirindhorn said that it was indeed a great pleasure to visit the state and experience the festival. Ahead of 2.0 release, HC directs 37 ISPs to block 12,000 websites
Ahead of Rajinikanth-starrer '2.0' release on Thursday, the Madras High Court has directed 37 internet service providers (ISPs) to block over 12,000 websites that exhibit pirated versions of Tamil movies. The list includes more than 2,000 websites operated by 'TamilRockers.' Justice M Sundar passed the order Wednesday while allowing a plea moved by Lyca Productions Private Limited, the movie's producer. When the plea came up, Lyca's counsel Vijayan Subramanian produced an extensive list of 12,564 illegal websites. The counsel contended that when 'TamilRockers' website is blocked, it immediately creates mirror websites by changing an insignificant part of the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) or any other extension, and are therefore able to reinstate the infringing material with minimal effort. Sir Elton John has postponed various shows in Florida owing to his ear infection.The 71-year-old singer was scheduled to perform at Orlando's Amway Center on Tuesday night but the fans were informed half an hour after the show time that the concert had been cancelled, reported People.Amway Center revealed this in a statement on Twitter and also conveyed the same to the crowd waiting for the singer at the Florida venue. "We're sorry to announce that due to an ear infection, Elton John is unable to perform tonight. RIL arms acquires substantial stake in media startup NEWJ
Reliance Industries arm has acquired substantial stake in media startup New Emerging World of Journalism (NEWJ) with an initial investment of Rs 10.3 million. "As initial tranche, RIIHL (Reliance Industrial Investments and Holdings Limited) has subscribed to 30,000 equity shares and 125 compulsory convertible debentures for total cash aggregating to Rs 10.3 million and consequently NEWJ has become subsidiary of RIIHL and the company," RIL said in a late regulatory filing on Tuesday. NEWJ is a tech-media startup focused on curating and producing video content for the smartphone-obsessed young Indians. According to sources, RIIHL has acquired majority stake in NEWJ. "The recent exponential growth of the video content market provides a huge opportunity for innovative visual storytelling in India. Margaret Atwood announces sequel to 'Handmaids Tale'
Margaret Atwood, whose books have found a new cultural relevance in the #MeToo era, is coming up with a sequel to her most famous dystopian novel, "The Handmaids Tale". Titled "The Testaments", the story is set 15 years after Offred's final scene and is narrated by three female characters. It will be published in September 2019, Atwood wrote on Twitter. The Canadian author said the book is inspired by all the questions that people have about Gilead, a fictional dystopian place where women have no rights and are treated like baby-making machines.
