CINTAA expels Alok Nath amid rape allegations

The Cine and TV Artists Association (CINTAA) Tuesday said it has expelled Alok Nath, a month after the actor was accused of rape by a writer-producer. Vinta Nanda, best known for the hit '90s TV show "Tara", had accused Nath of raping her more than once 19 years ago. In a statement released on Twitter, CINTAA, which has previously sent show-cause notice to Nath, said, "In view of the various allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct against Mr Alok Nath, after due diligence and consideration, the Executive Committee of CINTAA has decided to expel him from the Association." When contacted, Nath told PTI he is yet to receive any official communication. "I have not received anything from CINTAA yet," he said. Besides Nanda, actor Sandhya Mridul also accused Nath of sexual harassment at an outdoor shoot years ago. Nath, who has repeatedly denied the claims, has also filed defamation case against Nanda. A month after writer-producer Vinta Nanda accused actor Alok Nath of allegedly raping her, the Cine and TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA), on Tuesday, expelled Nath from its membership.CINTAA released a statement on Twitter stating, "In view of the various allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct against Mr. Alok Nath, after due diligence and consideration, the Exec. Singer alleges harassment by policemen at musical programme

A singer, who shot to fame as a reality show participant, has alleged that police constables and civic volunteers have harassed her when she was performing at a cultural function in West Midnapore. Narrating her ordeal on Facebook, Mekhla Dasgupta said she felt unsafe at the programme, which was organized by Danton police station in the district, and had to be escorted out by the sponsors. Dasgupta also apologized to her followers for going live on social media "unannounced". 'The Girl in the Spider's Web' to hit Indian screens on November 23

"The Girl in the Spider's Web", fronted by Claire Foy, is set to release in India on November 23. Foy plays the lead role of Lisbeth Salander, previously portrayed by Rooney Mara and Noomi Rapace, in the sequel to David Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". According to a statement, the film is presented by Sony Pictures and will also be dubbed in Hindi. "Don't Breathe" fame Fede Alvarez is the director. The plot centres on a computer hacker (Salander) and a journalist (Mikael Blomkvist), who find themselves caught in a web of spies, cyber criminals and corrupt government officials. German Playboy stands by Ennio Morricone story slamming Quentin Tarantino

A day after veteran Italian music composer Ennio Morricone rubbished the interview with Playboy in which he was quoted calling director Quentin Tarantino "a cretin", the publisher of the magazine's German edition is standing by the story. On Saturday, German Playboy quoted Morricone, who won the Oscar for his work on Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight", where he criticised the filmmaker for his "trash" films. The music composer released a statement Sunday in which he dubbed the comments "totally false". Morricone denied making the comments about Tarantino and his work. 'Aquaman' to release in India before US

Warner Bros is set to release "Aquaman" in India on December 14, a week before the movie hits the US theatres. The film, directed by James Wan, features Jason Momoa plays Aquaman. The movie is the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime -- one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be. Northeast Youth Festival to begin in Tripura from Thursday

Tripura will host the 6th Northeast Youth Festival from November 15, in which over 1,200 participants from the eight NE states would attend, state minister Manoj Kanti Deb said on Tuesday. Various sports events and cultural programmes such as folk music, folk dance, rock music, martial arts, adventure sports, handicrafts shows, yoga, boat race would be held at the three-day festival. Participants from Assam, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura would join the Festival to be inaugurated by Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. Chief ministers of some of the NE states are expected to attend the festival, said Manoj Kanti Deb, the sports and Youth affairs minister. The 6th NE Youth Festival is being organised with an estimated expenditure of Rs 3 crore, he said. The previous edition of the festival was hosted by Sikkim in 2017.

15 years on, govt to hunt for new producer for Phule biopic

The Maharashtra government said Tuesday that it has scrapped its 2003 decision to give the responsibility of making a film on social reformer Jyotirao Phule to the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC). A government order said it has earmarked Rs 20 crore for the project, and would soon issue a tender, inviting production houses to submit bids to produce the film. "The government has cancelled the decision taken on March 15, 2003 to give the responsibility of production to NFDC because of the delay," the order said. A panel of experts will be formed to ensure that the film is historically accurate, it added. Phule, born in western Maharashtra in 1827, is known as one of the most prominent and influential social reformers of his times. The Mumbai police have registered a case against unknown persons for leaking actor Akshara Haasan's private photographs on the Internet. The 23-year-old actor, daughter of Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan, had released a statement on Twitter about how the alleged leaking of photographs had caused her anguish.
