Nothing offensive in 'Kedarnath': Makers

Producer Ronnie Screwvala and director Abhishek Kapoor on Monday said their upcoming film "Kedarnath" has nothing offensive, days after a BJP leader demanded a ban on the movie. Ajendra Ajay, who is part of Dehradun's BJP media relations team, wrote to Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairman Prasoon Joshi that despite being set against the backdrop of one of the worst human tragedies, the film makes fun of Hindu sentiments. When asked about the controversy, Ronnie told reporters, "First, I want to clarify, till date no one has approached us. Second, our onus is to get the film censored. Censor board is the single and sole body that represents this (films). Hollywood veteran Spike Lee says he would like to direct a musical some day. The 61-year-old star, who has helmed documentaries about Michael Jackson and Pavarotti, says making a ''straight out singing and dancing'' movie is still on his bucket list. "I'm going to do a musical one day, for sure. I mean, there are many musical elements in my films already, but this one I want to do straight out singing and dancing, beginning-to-end high-stepping, wailing musical," Lee told CinemaBlend. 'Sarkar' crew get-together: Cake steals the show

Days after calling a truce with the ruling AIADMK on the controversy surrounding the latter's freebee schemes, the 'Sarkar' film crew had a little get-together with a cake drawing all the attention. The icing on the cake, however, seems to be the inclusion of topical mixer-grinder, pictures of which were uploaded on Instagram by Oscar-winning A R Rahman, who has scored the film's music. The get-together of the key names in the film including actor Vijay, director A R Murugadoss and Rahman, chose to include the contentious mixer and grinder in the cake, with their creamy replicas on either side of the delicacy. Major traumatic injury can increase suicide risk

Findings of a recent study suggest that a major traumatic injury - such as car crashes and falls - could increase the risk of mental health diagnoses and even suicide.The research has been published in CMAJ (Canadian Medical Association Journal)."Major trauma was associated with a 40 per cent increased rate of hospital admission for 1 or more mental health diagnoses," writes Dr Christopher Evans of Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, with co-authors. "The most common mental health diagnoses were alcohol abuse, other drug abuse disorders and major depressive disorders."There is little evidence on the link between major injury and later mental health issues. This large study, based on more than 19 000 patients in Ontario, contributes to the literature on this important topic. Arjun Kapoor completed the shooting of "India's Most Wanted" on Monday. Alibaba builds a smart screen for the visually-impaired shoppers

Chinese tech giant Alibaba has introduced a new smart screen for the visually impaired users to help them shop without much of an assistance.The smart screen is a result of the company's two years and USD 25 billion R&D initiative. As TechCrunch reports, the screen, called Smart Touch, is like a silicone layer which can be added to the top of a smartphone screen.Each film costs about 3.6 cents to produce. It has three mini buttons on each side which are sensory-enabled. By pressing these buttons, certain commands are triggered, such as 'go back' and 'confirm', making online shopping a smoother process.Smart Touch is also useful while answering calls, listening to texts, and so on.

Series on Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng in the works at Fox Asia

A series celebrating the discography of iconic Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng is being developed at Fox Networks Group in Asia. Titled "Memory Eclipse", the five-part anthology series is produced by "Infernal Affairs" producer John Chong, according to Variety. Each episode will feature a different cast of characters, with a storyline inspired from a Teng song. It is backed by Winday Culture, a production company from Taiwan, whose founder Charles Sun will direct the project. Key cast members include Kaiser Chuang, Esther Liu, JC Lin, Nikki Hsieh, Alan Kuo and Teresa Daley. Production will take place in her home country and Thailand, where she died suddenly while travelling, at the age of 42. Teng, one of the most famous Chinese-language singers from the 1970s and 1980s, chiefly performed in Mandarin but also in other Asian languages and English. Her repertoire cut across genres, such as pop, ballads and folk music. The series is slated for a 2019 release.
