Common people opposed 'Sarkar' screening, not AIADMK workers: Palaniswami

Amid reports suggesting that All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) workers vandalised the posters of the movie 'Sarkar' while protesting against the release of the film, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami claimed that it was a protest by common people and not AIADMK cadres."It wasn't AIADMK. It was a protest by common people. Through the movie, schemes of the government are being criticised vehemently," Palaniswami said at a press conference here.The Chief Minister, while questioning the source of funding for the film, asked: "They spend Rs 300-500 crore to make a film, where does this money come from?"After protests were witnessed against the alleged negative portrayal of late AIADMK Chief J. Veteran sports journalist Roshan Lal Sethi passes away

Veteran sports journalist Roshan Lal Sethi has passed away after a prolonged illness. Sethi, who breathed his last at his East Delhi residence on Saturday, was 81. He is survived by his wife, a married son and two married daughters. Sethi started his sports journalism career in 1964 with 'Motherland' newspaper and remained associated with it till 1975 as sports editor. He also worked with the Indian Express, Hindustan Times, National Herald and Navbharat Times. For the last few years, he was associated with Sandhya Times. Football Delhi president Shaji Prabhakaran and its managing committee members mourned the demise of Sethi.

:TheKochi-Muziris Biennale starting on December 12 will feature a dynamic range of artwork,along with curated programming in cinema and performance, as well as seminars and workshops, the organisers said here Sunday. "Avengers 4" or not, but Tom Hiddleston's Loki is getting a new lease of life as the actor is all set to star in a spin-off series based on the God of Mischief. Disney confirmed a standalone series for the Avengers anti-hero with the fan favourite Hiddleston reprising the role for its new streaming video service. Philippines media agency faces corruption charges

The Philippines government here on Sunday charged an investigative news site with corruption charges.Quoting sources, CNN reported that the Justice Department of the country had 'found probable cause' to indict the news site named Rappler and its CEO and executive editor, Maria Ressa, over alleged charges of tax evasion.According to reports, Rappler along with its CEO Ressa failed to file tax returns over a three million USD investment made by the Omidyar Network, a fund created by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar, in 2015.However, the media agency has declared the move as an attempt to curb press freedom in the Southeast Asian country, thereby silencing journalists as well as their independent news coverage.In a statement to the New York Times, the news site denied the corruption allegations, calling it to be a 'clear form of continuing intimidation and harassment' of the journalists.Taking a step ahead, Rappler further told CNN, "We are not at all surprised by the decision, considering ..
