Five Bengali films selected in feature section of Indian

Five Bengali films have been selected in the feature section of Indian Panorama in the 49th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to be held from November 20 to 28 in Goa. The films are 'Nagarkirtan' by Kaushik Ganguly, 'Uma' by Srijit Mukherji, 'Uronchondi' by Abhishek Saha, 'Sa' by Arijit Singh, 'Abyakto' by Arjun Dutta, according to a release by the festival organisers here. "A great feat for team #Uronchondi. The film gets an official selection at @IFFIGoa..", Bengali film superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, who produced the film Uronchondi, posted on his official twitter handle. Delhi Bar Council sends legal notice to Big B for donning lawyer's attire

The Bar Council of Delhi has issued a legal notice to Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, Everest Masala, YouTube, and a media house for using a lawyer's attire in an advertisement.The notice stated that respondents have failed to take due precautions before using the lawyer's attire and are liable for legal action for telecasting the advertisement without any authority.'You are required to immediately stop all such advertisements and also give an undertaking to the Bar Council of Delhi, Bar Council of India and other states Bar Councils that the lawyers' attire shall not be used in any advertisement in future,' read the notice.The Bar Council also asked the respondents to furnish an undertaking in 10 days, failing which further action will be initiated.In the commercial, Big B can be seen sitting in his dressing room, wearing a lawyer's suit, as two junior artists enter and offer him Pav Bhaji. Diego Luna, Michael Pena to promote 'Narcos: Mexico' in Mumbai

Diego Luna and Michael Pena, the stars of Netflix's "Narcos: Mexico", will be landing in India's financial capital Mumbai to promote the show. The streaming giant has hit a reset with the popular series whose first three seasons dealt with Colombian drug Pablo Escobar and Cali cartel. With the fourth season, the story moves from Colombia to Mexico and the focus will be on the country's Guadalajara drug cartel. Odia group files complaint against SRK for 2001 flick 'Ashoka'

Madras HC warns HR&CE dept over docs related to temple idol

The Madras High Court Thursday warned the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department of serious consequences if it was proved that the documents related to an idol at the famous Kapaleeswarar temple here were destroyed. A special division bench of justices R Mahadevan and PD Audikasavalu gave the warning to the officials of the department after the counsel for the Tamil Nadu government submitted that the documents were destroyed. The matter relates to a petition filed by Rangarajan Narasimhan of Srirangam in Tiruchirappalli district, seeking a direction to conduct a "Kumbhabhishekam" by installing a new idol of the peacock at the temple in Mylapore here. Taking a serious view of the plea, the bench directed the idol wing of the police to inquire into the matter and file a report. It then posted the matter to next week. The petitioner submitted that the idol of a peacock holding a flower in its beak at the temple was missing for long and now, there was an idol of .

Book on Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay short stories in English

Eight of the over 200 short stories from the rich oeuvre of legendary Bengali writer Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay's works have been translated into English and compiled in a book form. Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, many of whose works have been adapted into iconic films like "Pather Panchali", "Aparajito" and "Apur Sansar", also wrote 16 novels. The tales in "Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay: Stories" have been translated by Rani Ray. Director Ruchi Narain says it is difficult for independent women filmmakers to survive in the film industry if they do not have a strong backing from a male star. Ruchi has assisted Sudhir Mishra and written screenplay for Mishra's films such as "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi", "Calcutta Mail".
