Bangladesh enacts digital law amid widespread protests

Bangladesh's president on Monday signed a controversial digital security act into law amid widespread protests by journalists and rights groups that it could endanger freedom of speech. The Digital Security Bill, 2018 was passed by the Parliament to deal with cybercrimes, including hurting the religious sentiment, negative propaganda against the 1971 Liberation War and Bangabandhu (Sheikh Mujibur Rahman), and illegal activities in e-transactions and spreading defamatory data, Bangla Tribune reported. President Abdul Hamid has assented to the Digital Security Bill 2018, by enacting it as a law, the report said. The law has faced vocal opposition from journalists and rights campaigners who say it could curb freedom of speech especially on social media and would undermine responsible journalism. Horn 'OK' Pleassss producer Samee Siddiqui on Monday submitted an application as his response to the Tanushree Dutta-Nana Patekar row.In the application submitted before the Oshiwara police station, Siddiqui stated that the matter had already been investigated by the Goregaon police. He further said Tanushree was not molested and is now raking up the issue for publicity.The 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne' actor has alleged that Patekar misbehaved with her on the sets of the film in 2008. She accused him of harassing her while shooting for a special dance number in the movie and also stated that Bollywood dance choreographer Ganesh Acharya teamed up against her.Patekar, however, refuted these allegations and said that "a lie will remain a lie." Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar on Saturday filed a written complaint with the Mumbai cyber police against a person and a YouTube channel, alleging that a video featuring him has been edited to make it appear as though the actor expressed his views on the ongoing controversy between Tanushree Dutta and Nana Patekar.In his complaint, Kumar, who recently shot with Patekar in Jaisalmer for their upcoming movie 'Housefull 4', told the police that during questions and answers at an event, someone asked him about a well-known actress from Bollywood, but later that part was uploaded on YouTube in an edited form.He also added that the person who had uploaded the video replaced the original actress' name (which was asked in question) with Tanushree Dutta's, who has alleged that Patekar harassed her while shooting for a special dance number for the movie 'Horn Ok Pleasss'.Soon after Akshay's complaint, the said video was deleted from the YouTube channel.Further investigation in the matter is ...

Katt Williams arrested on assault charges

Comedian Katt Williams has been arrested on the suspicion of assaulting a hired driver. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Williams assaulted the driver during an argument about taking him and his dog from the Portland, Oregon, airport to a performance in the city. The comedian had come to Portland to perform Friday night in Nick Cannon's "Wild 'N Out" comedy improv show. Port of Portland police said the town car driver had swelling and cuts on his face. The 47-year-old Williams left in another vehicle and was arrested Saturday. Williams has been charged with assault in the fourth degree. He also was arrested for an out-of-state warrant.

Dilip Kumar admitted to hospital

Veteran actor Dilip Kumar was admitted to hospital Sunday. The 95-year-old actor is being treated for recurrent pneumonia. Kumar's family friend Faisal Farooqui share the news on the actor's official Twitter handle. "Want to inform you @TheDilipKumar has been admitted to hospital last night. Nana Patekar cancels press conference

Actor Nana Patekar, who has been accused of sexual harassment by Tanushree Dutta, was to address the media Monday but the press conference has now been called off. A message was sent out to the media last night by Nana's son Malhar, stating the press conference would not take place. "Sorry to be messaging at this hour, just wanted to inform that there's no press conference tomorrow, please pass on the message to your colleagues in the media. Will let you know about the further proceedings soon, regards," the message read. There was no response from his lawyer when contacted.
