Assamese singer and music director Kishour Giri, who lent his voice to various social issues, passed away on Sunday at his residence here. Giri suffered a heart attack and breathed his last at his Kharghuli residence, his family said. He was 63 and survived by wife and two daughters. Giri, who could play a number of musical instruments, including the guitar, violin and mandolin, composed music for a few Assamese films and television serials. In his condolence message, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said: "I am saddened by his sudden death. The guitar was his strong medium to make people aware on various social issues." Filmmaker Neeraj Ghaywan and writer Varun Grover Sunday criticised the now-dissolved production banner, Phantom Films, for its failure to create safe working environment for women on their films' sets. Their reaction came in the aftermath of allegations of sexual harassment against Phantom Films co-founder Vikas Bahl.
