Alan Alda to get SAG Life Achievement Award
Veteran actor Alan Alda has been selected by SAG-AFTRA as the 55th recipient of its annual life achievement award. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 82-year-old actor will be honoured at the 2019 SAG Awards on January 27 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The award is given annually to an actor who fosters the "finest ideals of the acting profession". "It is an honour and privilege to announce that our SAG Life Achievement Award will be presented to the fabulous Alan Alda. He is an artiste whose body of work is a testament to the craft and the magic of our business. "His ability to make us laugh, to think and to feel is extraordinary. Justin Simien to direct Sylvia Robinson biopic
"Dear White People" creator Justin Simien has been roped in to direct the yet untitled Sylvia Robinson biopic from Warner Bros. The movie has been in the works since 2014 when Paula Wagner acquired the film rights to the life story of Robinson, the founder of Sugar Hill Records, reported Deadline. The script, written by Tracy Oliver, Malcolm Spellman, and Carlito Rodriguez, details how Robinson became a music mogul after recording 1979's "Rapper's Delight". Sylvia Robinson's son Leland Robinson and Tracy Oliver serve as executive producers. Wagner is producing through her Chestnut Ridge Productions along with Homegrown Pictures' Stephanie Allain and Kraftbox Entertainment's Robert Kraft. Bollywood's leggy lass Deepika Padukone is set to portray the role of an acid attack survivor in her next film.Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh made it official on his official Twitter handle. 'Shakuntala - The Opera' staged by Austrian Embassy
The romantic story of the Indian epic Mahabharat 'Shakuntala and Dushyanta' was staged in song and dance here at the initiative of the Austrian Embassy. Named 'Shakuntala - The Opera', was enacted by a team comprising the Austrian chamber orchestra, the award-winning Shillong chamber choir and famous Kathak dancer Shovana Narayan on Thursday. While the introductory song 'Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram', a Baisnavi bhajan popularised by Mahatma Gandhi was in Hindi, other songs were in German and the narration was in English. Austrian Ambassador Brigitte Oppinger-Walchshoifer said the production was adapted from the incomplete opera by legendary Austrian composer Franz Schubert in 1820 and later put together by composer and president of Viena Boy's Choir Prof Gerald Wirth. A non-cognisable offence complaint has been filed against actor Tanushree Dutta for allegedly defaming Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and his party.The complaint was filed by a man named Sumant Dhas at Kaij police station in Beed district of Maharashtra.Tanushree, who has accused Nana Patekar of harassing her, has reportedly said that Raj Thackeray wanted to succeed late Bal Thackeray as the Shiv Sena chief, but was unsuccessful in doing so.The 'Dhol' actor has also claimed that MNS party workers were involved in the attack on her car after she opted out of the 2008 film 'Horn OK Pleassss' after alleged harassment by co-actor Patekar.

Oscar-winning animator, Will Vinton passed away of at the age of 70.The death of the man with a unique waxed moustache was announced by his children Bildren, Jesse and Alex in a Facebook post.Vinton is well known for coining the term 'Claymation'. It was on Thursday that the veteran breathed his last after fighting a 12-year-long battle with multiple myeloma.According to his children's Facebook post, he was the man who had the ability to brighten up a "room with his signature" and used to "laugh until the very end".They added that his work on animation history will continue to inspire creative thinkers and makers.Vinton won an Oscar in for the 1975 animated short film 'Closed Mondays'. He was nominated for other animated films like Rip Van Winkle (1978) and The Creation (1981) to name a few.
Meg Ryan to produce NBC comedy series
Hollywood star Meg Ryan is attached to produceand potentially starin a single-camera comedy series currently in development at NBC. Written by Andrew Gottlieb, "The Obsolescents" takes place in a New Jersey suburb where the facade of peace and civility is disrupted by the shocking death of a longtime township council member. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lorne Michaels and Andrew Singer will also serve as executive producer via Broadway Video along with Ryan. If Ryan were to star in "The Obsolescents", it would be her first TV series-regular role in decades. Deepika Padukone will be playing the role of an acid attack survivor in Meghna Gulzar's next directorial venture which the actor will also be producing. The 32-year-old will play the role of Laxmi Agarwal in the yet to be titled film. "When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it's not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to turn producer," Deepika said in a statement. According to the release, in 2005, while Laxmi was waiting at a bus stop in Delhi, she was attacked by an assailant, a man twice her age, known to her family and an unlikely suitor whose advances she had declined. The Delhi High Court Friday acquitted former TV anchor and producer Suhaib Ilyasi in his wife's murder case. A bench of Justices S Muralidhar and Vinod Goel allowed the appeal of Ilyasi challenging his conviction and life imprisonment for killing his wife, Anju, 18 years ago. The trial court had on December 20, 2017 sentenced Ilyasi, who had shot into limelight after hosting TV crime show - 'India's Most Wanted', to life term for stabbing his wife to death, saying he "committed murder and gave it a colour of suicide".
Motion Picture Academy launches new initiative to support women filmmakers
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has launched a new program called 'Action: The Academy Women's Initiative', with an aim to create opportunities for female filmmakers to connect, share their stories and celebrate inclusion. The program is an extension of Academy's A2020 initiative to promote inclusion and increase representation within the greater film community. The program consists of the Academy Gold Fellowship for Women, the Academy Directory and annual events, which this year will take place October 15 in London and October 30 in Los Angeles, and will see the announcement of the first two recipients of the Academy Gold Fellowship for Women. Hollywood star Ben Affleck thanked his family Friday after completing a stay in rehab for alcohol addiction. The actor, 46, posted a text image to his Instagram to thank everyone who has supported him. "The support I have received from my family, colleagues and fans means more to me than I can say.
