21st Century Fox to sell its 39% stake in Sky to Comcast

Rupert Murdoch's 21st Century Fox said Wednesday it had agreed to sell its 39 per cent stake in Sky to Comcast, giving the US cable and media giant full control of the British television giant. The move comes days after Comcast made a successful bid of 30.6 billion pounds (USD 40 billion) for a controlling stake in Sky. Fox, which is in the process of selling key media-entertainment assets to Walt Disney Co, said in a statement that Disney had agreed to the sale of the stake, worth an estimated USD 15 billion. The agreement ends a long-running battle for control of Sky by Murdoch in the face of resistance by British regulators and firms up the new landscape in the sector with Comcast in control of Sky and Disney set to expand its footprint with television and film assets from Fox. The deals enable Murdoch, 87, who has been gradually turning over control of his media empire to his two sons, to slim down his holding to focus on a "new Fox" that would include the US-based broadcast ...

French rap video calling for 'whites to be hanged' causes furore

A little-known French rapper has caused outrage by calling for whites to be killed in a video depicting a white man being tortured, shot and hanged from a tree. The video by Nick Conrad -- which controversial black comedian Dieudonne M'bala M'bala , a convicted anti-Semite, linked to on his Facebook page on Saturday -- was viewed thousands of times on YouTube before being taken down on Wednesday. In one scene from 'PLB' (short for 'Pendez Les Blancs', or 'Hang Whites') the rapper and an associate drag their white victim along the pavement and kick him in the head, in an apparent reference to a scene from the film American History X, about the abuse of blacks by American neo-Nazis. The lyrics evoke the killing of adults and children with the rapper singing: "I walk into creches, I kill white babies, catch them quick and hang their parents." Government spokesman Benjamin Griveaux condemed the "hateful, nauseating lyrics in the strongest possible terms" as did Interior Minister Gerard ...

Maha electoral office cautious about picking film stars as

The Maharashtra Electoral Office is being cautious in selecting film personalities as brand ambassadors for polls after a recent experience of two such faces joined a political party, an official said Wednesday. The electoral office does not want any actor with political affiliation to be chosen as a brand ambassador. While many Marathi film stars are associated either with Shiv Sena or the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Bollywood actors too are known for their political affiliations. A recent case in point is that of Marathi actors Aakash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru, famously known as "Parsha" and "Archie" after the characters they had played in blockbuster Marathi movie "Sairat". Recently, Thosar and Rajguru, along with Sairat director Nagraj Manjule, joined the MNS which is headed by Raj Thackeray. They were last year roped in as the brand ambassadors to commemorate the National voters Day on January 25 to attract youngsters to register themselves as voters. "Most of .

Newcomers should look for ideal opportunity, says Salman Khan

Salman Khan, who is launching his brother-in-law Aayush Sharma with the film "Loveyatri", says it is a huge responsibility to introduce people to Bollywood. "If they make (it big), it is the happiest feeling but if they don't, whoever you have launched or worked with, I believe that you should never stop working with them. "New people will keep on coming in but those people whom you worked with you should work with them again because that time you had thought that there's something in them, which maybe didn't work out that time," Salman said in a group interview. Given his experience of over 25 years in the film industry, the 52-year-old actor says his only advice to newcomers is to do good work. "I tell them (newcomers) don't play games. Just be enthusiastic in what you want to do. Be patient and don't jump into anything. If there is no work, it is fine as the work that you do has to be good work. "Otherwise working everyday may lead to some bad work and it will not let you get work .

Only audience can make actor a star, says Salman Khan

Salman Khan says nepotism does not work in Bollywood as audiences only accept good films and actors, irrespective of their background. The 52-year-old actor contends that someone would have launched his brother-in-law Ayush Sharma, if not him, as he has been working hard for it over the years. "He has been training hard. I knew this nepotism thing would come up.. He is son of a politician how can you put him into this nepotism thing. "This is the only one place where nepotism cannot work at all. It is the audience that will make you a superstar or will reject you no matter whose son or a brother-in-law you are," Salman said in an interview here. Ayush is making his Bollywood debut with "Loveyatri" opposite Warina Hussain. The film, directed by Abhiraj Minawala, releases on October 5. The "Race 3" cites his own example and says it is "totally the audience who decide what they like and what not". "You never know what they would like.
