A day after actor Farhan Akhtar pointed out an error in a textbook depicting him as legendary athlete Milkha Singh, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien today said the book was neither a part of government school curriculum not was it published by the state. The senior TMC leader, however, assured Akhtar that efforts were being made to track the private publishing company that printed the school textbook. "Thanks Farhan. Ref the wrong pic of Milkha Singh. Checked with education minister of state. He tells me it isn't a textbook for government schools. Nor is it published by government," he said tweeted last night. 'English Vinglish' actor Sujata Kumar dies after cancer battle
Sujata Kumar, best known for films such as "English Vinglish", passed away last night. Family sources told PTI, the actor was suffering from fourth stage metastatic cancer (metastatis) and was admitted to Lilavati Hospital here. "Her condition worsened day before yesterday at the hospital," the insider said. Actor Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, Sujata's younger sister, also took to Twitter to share the news of the death. "Our beloved Sujata Kumar has passed away and moved on to a better place leaving us with an umimaginable void. She left us an hour ago at 11.26 pm on the 19th of august 2018... Life can never be the same again..." Krishnamoorthi tweeted. In another tweet, which she later deleted, Krishnamoorthi said the funeral will take place at the Juhu crematorium in Vile Parle today. Sujata, age unknown, has also worked in films such as "Gori Tere Pyar Mein" and "Raanjhanaa", among other many TV shows and commercials.
Michael Buble 'fell in love' with wife again after son started recovering from cancer
Singer Michael Buble said he fell in love with his wife Luisana Lopilato all over again after their son started recovering from cancer. The couple's son Noah was diagnosed with cancer in 2016. He was three-year-old at the time. Buble, however, recently confirmed that his son is doing well now. In an interview with Stellar magazine, the 42-year-old singer said his marriage with Lopilato also improved as Noah got better. "We saw the very worst and also the best of each other. I don't know that (having another child) was purposeful, there was just so much happiness and this incredible sense of relief," Buble said. "I know my wife wanted to have a girl. Asia Argento settled a claim with sexual assault accuser
Actor-director Asia Argento, one of the vocal advocates of the #MeToo movement, settled a claim last year from a former child actor that she assaulted him when he was 17. According to documents obtained by The New York Times, Argento, made a deal with former child actor-musician Jimmy Bennett for the amount of USD 380,000, payable over the period of a year-and-a-half. She paid off Bennett, who claims to have been assaulted in a California hotel room in 2013 by the then 37-year-old actor when he was a little over 17, in the months that followed her allegations of sexual abuse by the now-disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. Argento's counsel who handled the settlement, Carrie Goldberg, described the money as "helping Mr Bennett" in the documents. Ken Jeong, Carl Weathers board cast of 'Magnum PI' reboot
Actors Ken Jeong and Carl Weathers have joined the cast of "Magnum PI" reboot. The CBS had recently ordered a pilot of the revival, which will be developed by "Hawaii Five-O" writers Peter Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim. The reboot will feature actor Jay Hernandez as Hawaii-based private investigator, Thomas Magnum. The character was played by Tom Selleck in the original 1980s series. According to EW, Jeong, 49, best known as Mr Chow from "The Hangover" films, will appear as Lee Ji-Won, an old school private investigator who is one of Magnum's regular poker buddies. Weathers, who is best known for playing Apollo Creed in Sylvester Stallone's "Rocky" films, will be portraying Dan, an old school Marine who is struggling to make ends meet as an honest fisherman. The series will be executive produced by "Blacklist" producers John Davis and John Fox via their David Entertainment banner. The series is set to premiere on September 24.
Benedict Cumberbatch offered 7.5 mn pounds for 'Doctor Strange 2'
Actor Benedict Cumberbatch has been offered a whopping 7.5 million pounds to star in the sequel of his hit film "Doctor Strange". According to Mirror, the "Avengers: Infinity War" star will get a 5 million pound raise in his salary from the Disney Studios for reprising his role as the title character in another solo film. "Benedict has become a huge player in the Marvel universe," an insider told the newspaper. Cumberbatch first played the part in the Scott Derickson-directed "Doctor Strange" in 2016 and later appeared briefly in "Thor: Ragnarok", which released last year. Doctor Strange was a pivotal character in "Infinity War" and the 42-year-old actor will play the part again in the untitled "Avengers 4", which is due to release in 2019. Bengali TV serial shooting stalemate continues
Shooting of Bengali TV serials was stalled for the second day today owing to a ceasework called by the Artist's Forum demanding regularisation of payment. The forum's General Secretary and actor Arindam Ganguly said no shooting of mega serials took place as there was no solution to their demands. The forum has been demanding payment of overtime dues of actors for taking part in late night shoots and settling payment of regular wages for shoots during July by some producers. Actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, who was present during a meeting between the forum members and producers' association during the day, said no breakthrough could be arrived today. "We are hopeful of a solution by tomorrow in everyone's interest," Chatterjee said. The forum, an organisation of actors and actresses, has 2,200 members.
