Akshay Kumar says he is in "the best phase" of his career as he is now getting to an opportunity to do different types of films. Regarded as an action star in his early days, the 50-year-old star has cemented his place in the industry over almost three decades by featuring in romance dramas, comedies and issue-based movies. "This is the best phase for me as an actor. I was always wary of having an image. When I came in the film industry I was given action hero tag, no one would offer me a romantic or comedy film, only action films were offered to me. "I kept doing action films for 14 years. There was no growth. I would call this as the best phase as I can do lot of things like 'Kesari', as an action film, 'Housefull 4' as a comedy film and some socially-relevant movies. Evangeline Lilly wanted to play Princess Leia in 'The Force Awakens'

Evangeline Lilly has revealed she wanted to play the iconic character of Princess Leia in 2005's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens". The "Ant-Man and The Wasp" star said she was so keen on essaying the role, immortalised by veteran actor Carrie Fisher, that for the first time ever, she went on to request a producer to give her the job, CNET.com reported. "When JJ (Abrams) announced that he was gonna do his first 'Star Wars' film, I reached out to his producing partner for the first time ever since (ABC plane-crash drama) 'Lost' ended. Sara Ali Khan today finally forayed into social media through Instagram. The 23-year-old actor debuted on the photo-and-video sharing platform on Independence Day, sharing an image rendition of the national anthem with author Rabindra Nath Tagore's pop art. Sara captioned the post: "Happy Independence Day #merabharatmahan #proudtobeindian." Tagore happens to be the actor's direct ancestor from her father, actor Saif Ali Khan's side. Senior Chinese monk accused of sexual misconduct quits post

One of China's most high-profile monks has resigned from a top national post following reports of sexual misconduct. The Buddhist Association of China says its president Shi Xuecheng (SHER SHWEI'-chung) left his duties to a deputy. The announcement today was included in a periodic report and did not mention the national controversy surrounding the powerful monk. Fellow monks accused Xuecheng earlier this year of harassing and demanding sexual favours from nuns at his Beijing monastery and embezzling funds, allegations that Xuecheng has denied on social media. Xuecheng has not commented publicly on his resignation. He was one of China's best known monks and authors. He was also highly influential and served as a political adviser to the central government while heading the national Buddhist association.

Ethan Peck cast as Spock in 'Star Trek: Discovery'

"Star Trek: Discovery" has found its Spock in actor Ethan Peck. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will play the iconic role of the half-human, half-Vulcan science officer of the USS Enterprise in the second season of the SVOD service's show.
