Assamese film wins 3 top awards at US fest
Assamese film "Xhoihobote Dhemalite" ("Rainbow Fields") today bagged three top awards at the 3rd Love International Film Festival here including best movie. Besides the best film, it also won the awards for best actress (Dipannita Sharma) and best music (Anurag Saikia) at the festival, where more than 150 films from 36 countries participated. The film, directed by Bidyut Kotoky, deals with the sensitive issue of children of Assam growing up in violent times and witnessing brutality around them. Receiving the award, Kotoky said, "In 'Xhoihobote Dhemlite', we always believe that we are making a world cinema in Assamese language. Actor Orlando Bloom stopped his West End performance of "Killer Joe" twice because an audience member was holding an iPad. London theatre critic Mark Shenton tweeted an "eye-witness account" from the play, sharing Bloom's outbursts, in which he threatened to stall the show if the iPad remained in sight. "I need you to put (that) iPad away now" Shenton quoted Bloom as saying, before adding minutes later, "Put that f***ing iPad away now and I will wait." Another audience member, actor Harry Edwin, replied to Shenton's tweet to defend the iPad owner, behind whom he was sitting during the incident. "Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage is set to star in and produce Sony's "Rumpelstiltskin". Patrick Ness has been roped in to pen the script, reported Variety. Disney and Lucasfilm have announced the cast of "Star Wars: Episode IX", confirming late actor Carrie Fisher will feature in the film. The star, who played Princess Leia in the film series, died in December 2016. Veteran filmmaker Steven Zaillian and 20th Century Fox are developing a movie about the deadly 2001 anthrax attacks . According to Deadline, Fox has acquired feature rights to "The Mirage Man: Bruce Ivins The Anthrax Attacks, And America's Rush To War", the 2011 book by Pulitzer winning journalist David William about the hunt for the anthrax killer who terrorised America in the days that followed the 9/11 attacks. Disney developing African princess fairytale movie 'Sade'
Disney is developing a live-action fairytale film centered on an African princess. Titled "Sade", the film will be produced by "Dope" director Rick Famuyiwa. According to Deadline, the studio bought a pitch from Ola Shokunbi and Lindsey Reed Palmer, who will co-write the screenplay about a young African girl named Sade whose kingdom is threatened by a mysterious evil force and accepts her newly discovered magical powers to protect her people, with the help of the kingdom's prince. Netflix renews 'Altered Carbon' for season 2 with Anthony Mackie in lead role
Streaming giant Netflix has renewed sci-fi drama "Altered Carbon" for a second season with "Captain America" star Anthony Mackie taking over the leading role of Takeshi Kovacs from Joel Kinnaman. The series is based on the science fiction novels written by Richard K. Morgan. Nicole Kidman lands film, TV rights to 'Big Little Lies' author's next book
Hollywood star Nicole Kidman's Blossom Films and Bruna Papandrea's Made Up Stories have bought the film and television rights to "Nine Perfect Strangers," the upcoming novel from "Big Little Lies" author Liane Moriarty. According to Variety, Kidman will star in the project and also executive produce it along with Per Saari for Blossom Films, while Papandrea will executive produce with Steve Hutensky for her banner. Moriarty will also serve as executive producer. At this stage, the companies have not announced whether they are eyeing a feature film, television movie or limited series adaptation. Kidman, Saari and Papandrea served in the same capacity on the seven-episode HBO adaptation of "Big Little Lies," which won eight Emmys in the limited series categories. The network subsequently ordered a second season, which is currently in production and will premiere in 2019.
