US radio hosts apologise for calling first Sikh-American Attorney "turban man"
Two radio hosts in New Jersey, who called America's first Sikh-American Attorney General Gurbir Grewal "turban man" on air, have apologised for their racist remarks and have been slapped with a 10-day suspension for using "demeaning and inappropriate" language. Dennis Malloy and Judi Franco, who host the "Dennis and Judi Show" on NJ 101.5FM, were talking about Grewal's decision to suspend marjiuana prosecutions in New Jersey when they repeatedly called him the "turban man" yesterday. In the remarks termed as "xenophobic and racist", Malloy had said he was never going to know Grewal's name and will instead just call him "guy with a turban". Two hosts of a radio program in New Jersey have been suspended for ten days after referring to America's first Sikh Attorney General, Gurbir Grewal, as "turban man" during a segment on July 25.Dennis Malloy and Judi Franco, who host a conservative-leaning talk show every weekday on New Jersey 101.5 F.M., forgot Grewal's name and called him 'turban man'.The segment was about a recent action the attorney general took in temporarily suspending prosecution of marijuana cases in the state.During the show, Malloy said that he would call the Attorney General "the guy with the turban" as he would never going to know his name, CNN reported.Soon after this the co-host Judi Franco called Grewal "Turban man"."Listen, if that offends you, then don't wear the turban, man," Malloy said, adding "And I'll remember your name."Outraged by the abhorrent comment by the duo jockeys, Grewal took to Twitter and said, "My name, for the record, is Gurbir Grewal. Rapper Cardi B, who recently gave birth to her daughter, has pulled out of Bruno Mars' 24K Magic tour. The rapper was announced as a special guest for the last leg of Mars tour in February. Cardi took to Twitter and said that she thought she would be physically capable of returning to the stage but she underestimated the "whole mommy thing". "I thought that after giving birth to my daughter that 6 weeks would be enough time for me to recover mentally and physically. Bengali film gets CBFC certificate sans mention of subtitles
The upcoming Bengali film 'Uronchondi', from Prosenjit Chatterjee's production, may have to be screened without subtitles as the makers claim that the CBFC Kolkata office has only issued certification for the film without any mention of subtitles. The film's associate producer Srijoni Roy told PTI that the certificate issued by the CBFC Kolkata office only mentioned 'Uronchondi (Bengali) (Colour) (2-D)' though they had submitted the subtitled version of Uronchandi for online certification on July 11/12. "In the given situation we are being forced to release the film without subtitles on August 3 which will deprive us financially as a large segment of non-Bengali audience will not be able to watch the film in theatres and the film cannot be distributed digitally," Roy said. Actors Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska have been confirmed as the leading ladies in the reboot of "Charlie's Angels". Sony is rebooting the famous franchise with actor-director Elizabeth Banks on board to direct the new version, reported Variety. Stewart and Scott were earlier confirmed for the project while Lupita Nyong'o was in negotiations to join as the third Angel in the project. The studio, however, has finalised on newcomer Balinska for the reboot. Banks will also star in the movie as the gender-flipped Bosley. Abu Salem threatens 'Sanju' makers with defamation case
