Indian film 'Tumbad' to be screened Venice Film fest

Indian fantasy film 'Tumbad' has been selected for a screening at the upcoming Venice International Film Festival in its Critics' Week section.Directed by Rahi Anil Barve Tumbad is a fantasy thriller and revolves around a desolate and forgotten village. The story is structured on the basis of greed.According to Variety, few of the film lined up for the competition include director Hajooj Kuka's 'A Kasha' (The Roundup), a comedy of errors aptly set during Sudan's civil war.Next in line is German director Andreas Goldstein's 'Adam & Evelyn' an interesting story set in the aftermath of Berlin Wall teardown, and Franco-Swiss directorial duo Alexia Walther and Maxime Matray's 'Blonde Animals', which is a surreal comedy to name a few.The Venice critics' week entries will compete alongside the official selection for the fest's coveted 'Lion of the Future prize' which is worth $100,000.The full official-selection of the 75th Venice Film Festival will be announced by this week.The fest is

Steve Trevor is alive in second 'Wonder Woman' movie

In the ongoing Comic-Con International convention a clip from the upcoming 'Wonder Woman 1984' revealed that one of the lead characters, Steve Trevor is still alive.According to the Hollywood Reporter, the cast of Wonder Woman 1984 which included Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot who visited the convention also had Chris Pine (Steve Trevor) as their surprise guest.Pine's appearance in the second film after his character's apparent death in the first 'Wonder Woman' movie surprised the audience. Even talk show host Aisha Tyler, who hosted the cast asked "What're you doing here, Chris?", further reported the Hollywood Reporter.The movie is set in the 1980s. 'Skyscraper' becomes top weekend earner in Chinese box office

Indian film 'Tumbbad' to open Venice Film Festival's Critics' Week

Horror-fantasy "Tumbbad" has become the first Indian film to open the prestigious Venice Film Festival's Critics' Week on August 9. The segment, which will run parallel to the 75th edition of the main festival, features nine films by first time directors from across the globe. The section's artistic director, Giona Nazzaro, called the 19th-century-set film, co-directed by Rai Anil Barve and Adesh Prasad, "a thrilling rollercoster ride". Veteran Bengali actress dies

Veteran Bengali actress Basabi Nandi passed away due to cardiac arrest, her family said today. Nandi, who was 82, died late last night. She is survived by her only son, they said. Nandi had earned accolades for her roles on both stage and screen for over two decades. Her prominent stage plays included Karagar (1962), Srimati Bhayankari (1980) while she had left imprints for her performance in films like Jamalaye Jibanto Manush (1958) and opposite Uttam Kumar in 'Bon Palashir Padabali' (1973) among many others. She had got the Best Supporting Actress Award by Bengal Film Journalists Association in 1974 for the movie 'Bon Palashir Padabali'. Nandi had also got acclaim as a playback singer.
