Racing in Texas and then Mexico City and then Brazil, followed by a quick trip back to the United Kingdom before finally arriving in Las Vegas, Formula One driver Alex Albon could not stop thinking about his golf game. He felt up to speed on the Las Vegas street circuit after turning about 500 laps on a simulator. His golf game? Not as sharp. Albon was among the four drivers who competed in The Netflix Cup," a made-for-TV golf match that paired F1 drivers with golfers from Full Swing. The streaming giant's first foray into live sports coverage kicked off a week of parties and concerts ahead of Saturday night's race down the Las Vegas Strip. We've had three races, been in Mexico, Brazil and the United States, and all I was worried about was this match, said Albon, who upon landing in Las Vegas played a round with a golf coach and his girlfriend, Lily Muni, a player on the LPGA Tour. The match at Wynn Golf Club was won by Justin Thomas and partner Carlos Sainz of Ferrari, who prompt

Defending Formula One champion Max Verstappen emphatically won the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday for an eighth straight win and 10th overall of a crushingly dominant season. He finished 22.3 seconds ahead of teammate Sergio Perez to give Red Bull and easy 1-2. It moved Verstappen ominously closer to a third straight world title and his own F1 record of 15 wins from last year. Verstappen is 125 points ahead of Perez after just 12 races, and his next target is matching Sebastian Vettel's F1 record of nine straight wins with a victory at the Dutch GP when the lopsided season resumes on Aug. 27. Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc finished in third spot for a third podium of the season, with Lewis Hamilton in fourth for Mercedes ahead of Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso. George Russell was sixth for Mercedes, with Lando Norris (McLaren), Esteban Ocon (Alpine), Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), and Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri) completing the top 10. Leclerc started on pole ahead of Perez, with Hamilto
Formula One is launching a new racing series for female drivers that will start next year. The series, to be known as the F1 Academy, will be subsidized by F1 and is likely to be a support series for one weekend of the F1 season. F1 said it would contribute funding of 150,000 euros ($156,000) per car and will require the drivers to cover the same amount, which represents a fraction of the usual costs in a comparable series. There will be 15 cars on the grid for a 21-race season split across seven rounds. The series will aim to recruit young talent currently in go-karting or other junior categories in the hope they can later graduate to Formula Three as a next step, and eventually compete in F1. The announcement comes less than two months after another all-female event, the W Series, cut its season short due to financial problems. The W Series has been free to enter for drivers, unlike most developmental series which require young drivers to bring their own financial backing from .

Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton will stay with Mercedes through the 2023 season after signing a two-year contract extension, the team said Saturday. The seven-time champion is currently in his ninth season with Mercedes. "It is hard to believe it's been nearly nine years working with this incredible team and I'm excited we're going to continue our partnership for two more years," Hamilton said. "We've accomplished so much together but we still have a lot to achieve, both on and off the track." An eighth championship would move Hamilton ahead of Michael Schumacher on the all-time list. Hamilton currently trails Red Bull's Max Verstappen by 18 points after eight races. Verstappen leads him 4-3 in wins and 3-2 in pole positions. Team principal Toto Wolff said this season's tight race for the title prompted them to get the contract done. "We are relishing the battle we have on our hands this year and that's why we also wanted to agree this contract early, so we have no distracti

Mercedes topped both practice sessions for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix as Red Bull endured a torrid day on Friday. New Delhi, 24 AprilIn a big win for the income tax department, the Supreme Court has held that the Formula One World Championship (FOWC) in motor racing is liable to be taxed in India for the F1 Grand Prix Championship. The apex court has upheld the view of the high court (HC) here, that FOWC has a permanent establishment (PE), in India. In this case, the Buddh International Circuit constituted this, on account of the assessee's continued presence for two weeks prior and one week after the race. Hence, the payment to FOWC from the Jaiprakash Associates group is liable to be taxed in India, as business income. This is, say tax experts, the first time that a car race circuit has been held to be the fixed PE of an assessee. A PE is defined as a fixed place of business which generally gives rise to income or value-added tax liability in a particular jurisdiction. The assessing officer will now determine the income attributable to India.
