GMDC inks long-term limestone supply deal with JK Cement for Gujarat's mine

State-owned GMDC on Friday said it has entered into a long-term pact with JK Cement Ltd for the supply of limestone from its upcoming mine in Gujarat. The agreement has been signed for supply of 250 million tonnes of limestone over a period of 40 years from its upcoming Lakhpat Punrajpur Mine in Lakhpat Taluka of Kutch district in Gujarat. This agreement will help JK Cement Ltd in setting up an integrated mega-capacity cement plant, fostering industrial growth in the region. Tata Projects to finish construction of Micron's semiconductor plant by Dec

Tata Projects on Tuesday said that the construction of the US-based chip company Micron Technology's semiconductor assembly and test facility at Sanand near Ahmedabad will be over by December 2025. While 60 per cent of work on India's first semiconductor plant has already been completed, the rest will be finished by the end of this year, said Amit Agrawal, Project Director, Tata Projects. The facility is coming up in nearly 50 acres of area at Sanand industrial area and the construction began in July last year. This semiconductor Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) facility is being constructed by Tata Projects for Micron. "An ATMP facility is essentially a backend fab facility where testing, packaging and marking of semiconductors are carried out. This is perhaps the largest back-end semiconductor fab unit in the world. In a fresh trouble for jailed journalist Mahesh Langa, the Gujarat police have registered a case against him for allegedly extorting Rs 40 lakh from a real estate agent by threatening to malign his image and implicate him in a false case, officials said. Langa is currently in jail in four previous cases registered by Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Rajkot police. "Now, an FIR under section 308 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) that deals with extortion, was registered on January 23 by the Satellite police station in Ahmedabad city on a complaint by Janak Thakor, a real estate agent and a social worker," police inspector H C Zala said, adding that further action will be taken after investigation. Gujarat received FDI equity inflow of $57.65 billion in last 10 years: Govt

Gujarat received a foreign direct investment (FDI) equity inflow of USD 57.65 billion in 10 years starting April 2014, the state government said on Thursday. This was shared in the latest report released by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) of the Union government in December last year. Gujarat attracted only USD 9.51 billion in FDI from April 2000 to March 2014. However, from April 2014 to September 2024, the state made a significant leap by getting USD 57.65 billion in FDI equity inflows, the report said. This accounts for 86 per cent of the total FDI equity inflow of USD 67.16 billion into Gujarat over the past 24 years, it said, adding that these figures underscore the state's exceptional performance under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reflect the unwavering confidence of investors in the state. Gujarat govt planning guidelines to restrict mobile use among children

The Gujarat government on Thursday said it will introduce guidelines restricting the use of mobile phones and social media for children, underscoring that too much screen time is not good for them. The aim is to keep the kids away from the devices and bring them to playgrounds and study tables, State Minister of Education Prafful Panseriya told reporters. The guidelines will be brought out after consulting experts, he said. We had earlier issued a government resolution banning mobile phones (for children) in primary schools. That resolution will be strictly followed from now on, he said. Teachers, students and parents will be made aware of the guidelines and the state will promote the initiative as a campaign, the minister said. Rescue ops on for second day to save Gujarat teen who fell into borewell

Hectic efforts continued on Tuesday to rescue an 18-year-old girl, more than 24 hours after she fell into a deep borewell at a village in Gujarat's Kutch district, officials said. The incident took place at around 6.30 am on Monday at Kanderai village in Bhuj taluka of the district. The teenager was stuck at a depth of 490 feet in the 540-foot-deep borewell, they said. "Rescue efforts continued through the night, and we have not met with success so far. The girl is not showing any movement, but we are continuously supplying her with oxygen and making all efforts to bring her out," Kutch Collector Amit Arora said. The borewell has a diameter of one foot, and the fact that the girl is grown up and stuck deep into it is making the rescue efforts difficult, the collector said.
