'Green corridor' for heart transplant created; cops lauded
: A 'green corridor' to facilitate a heart transplant on a 47-year-old woman in a hospital here was created by the traffic police. The donor was a 51-year-old woman patient. The live heart was successfully transplanted, a press release said. The green corridor, stretching to 8 km from Secunderabad to Nampally, was covered in 7 minutes, the release said. The effort of the traffic police was appreciated by the doctors and the kin of the patient, it added.
Need to ensure emergency medicine, universal health coverage: Health Ministry official

AIIMS doctors remove 15-kg tumour from UP woman's uterus
Doctors at the premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here removed a 15-kg tumour from the uterus of a 20-year-old woman from Hapur in Uttar Pradesh. Her case posed a challenge for the surgeons at the central government-run premier hospital as the tumour was very close to the uterus and removing it could have led to the removal of the uterus as well. "In such a scenario, she would not have become mother ever," a senior doctor at the AIIMS said. After proper evaluation and planning, doctors successfully removed the 15-kg tumour from her uterus last month without causing any harm to the organ. According to the doctor, it was the largest uterine tumour they had ever operated upon. "The woman was in terrible pain and her abdomen was swollen. A CT scan revealed a huge tumour in her uterus. With an aim to provide better healthcare to people, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Thursday that free dialysis services will be provided in every district hospital here. Adityanath inaugurated a 10-bed dialysis unit at the Gorakhpur district hospital. "Our government is very serious towards better health services. Keeping in view the increasing number of kidney patients, the decision has been taken to provide free dialysis services. The plan comes under the Ayushman Bharat scheme," he said. No plucking in several states from December 15: Tea Board
The Tea Board has asked gardens in many states in the east, north-east and north India -- except Assam -- to stop plucking from December 15. The board's order in this direction will apply to all tea manufacturing units situated in the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, it said. The last date for intimating to the Tea Board regarding closure of manufacturing is December 17, and that for completion of sorting, packing of CTC, orthodox tea and moving the packs to notified storage areas with invoice marking is December 27 (for CTC) and December 31 for the orthodox variety, the order said. The objective of the move is to reduce inferior quality of teas, a senior official of the board said. 'Electrical stimulation helps three paralysed patients walk again'
Three paralysed patients have been able to walk again, thanks to precise electrical stimulation of their spinal cords via a wireless implant, Swiss scientists said. According to the study published in the journals Nature and Nature Neuroscience, after a few months of training the patients with chronic paraplegia were able to control previously paralysed leg muscles even in the absence of electrical stimulation. The study, called STIMO (STImulation Movement Overground), establishes a new therapeutic framework to improve recovery from spinal cord injury, said researchers from the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) and the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) in Switzerland. The health of Nepal's Prime Minister K P Oli, who was admitted to a hospital after developing lung infection, is improving and would be discharged soon, according to the doctors. Oli, 66, was admitted to the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu, on Monday after developing a lung infection, the hospital said in a statement. Prime Minister Oli's health has improved significantly and he would be discharged soon after further observation and consultation, Arun Sayami, coordinator of the doctors team looking after Oli's treatment, said. Hot-brewed coffee has higher levels of antioxidants than cold brew, which are believed to be responsible for some of the health benefits of the popular drink, a study has found. The study, published in the journal Scientific Reports, also found that the pH levels or acidity indicator, of both hot and cold coffee were similar, ranging from 4.85 to 5.13 for all coffee samples tested. A low-fat diet may help increase the cancer survival rate of obese children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common childhood cancer, a study claims. Researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in the US administered the chemotherapy drug vincristine to obese and non-obese mice with leukemia. They discovered that if they switched the obese mice from a high-fat to a low-fat diet immediately before starting chemotherapy, the mice had a dramatically improved outcome. The mice on the low-fat diet had a five times higher survival rate than the mice in the high-fat diet group, the study published in the journal Cancer & Metabolism found. Drug firm Zydus Cadila Thursday said it has launched generic Vardenafil Hydrochloride tablets used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in the American market. The company has launched the tablets in the strengths of 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg and 20 mg in the US market after receiving the final approval from the United States Food and Drug Adminstration (USFDA), Zydus Cadila said in a statement. The product will be manufactured at the group's formulations manufacturing facility at SEZ, Ahmedabad, it added.
