Rahul Gandhi should try to integrate Pak, Bangladesh with India: Himanta

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should try to integrate Pakistan and Bangladesh with India for creating 'Akhand Bharat' if he has any regret about the Partition designed by his ancestors, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme here, Sarma said the Congress's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' led by Gandhi is the "comedy of the century" as the country is one and united. "The country is united and integrated from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, from Silchar to Saurashtra and there is no need for the unification," he said. "In 1947, the country was partitioned for the creation of Pakistan and later Bangladesh came into existence. If Rahul Gandhi has any regret or is apologetic for the problem created by his ancestors, then he should try to integrate Pakistan and Bangladesh with India for the creation of Akhand Bharat (undivided India)," he said. 'We prefer to work quietly': Himanta tweets, tagging Kejriwal again

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday listed the initiatives of his government in the education sector, particularly for tea garden tribes, on Twitter, tagging Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal again. Sharing a video clip, Sarma said, "Unless forced to, we prefer to work quietly!" "In this academic year we've established 100 Secondary Schools for kids of tea garden workers; 100 more in pipeline. Tea gardens are located in remotest parts of Assam," he said. The video claimed that Assam has a robust school education system with more than 2 lakh teachers teaching over 65 lakh students in 44,521 government schools. A total of 1.18 lakh mid-day meal workers are also engaged by the state government, it said. While 100 secondary schools for children of tea garden workers have been opened this academic session, 100 more schools and 10 colleges are in the project preparation stage, it added. The video ended with the line, "We prefer to deliver quality, quietly!" The two chief minis

Mobile internet to be suspended in Assam on Sunday for exam in govt depts

Mobile internet services in several districts of Assam will be suspended for four hours for the second time this month on Sunday for conducting free and fair written examination for grade III posts of various government departments. Prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC have also been clamped near the examination centres to further strengthen security measures. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday reviewed the preparations. Mobile internet services had been suspended on August 21 in 25 districts of the state when the written examination for grade IV posts was held in two shifts of two hours each to ensure that candidates do not indulge in cheating through electronic devices. The final phase of this recruitment drive will be held for a limited number of posts of grade IV on September 11 and no suspension of mobile internet service on that day has been announced so far. A writ petition was filed in Gauhati High Court against suspension of the mobile internet service

Kejriwal, Sarma trade jibes over govt schools as Twitter spat grows

The Twitter spat between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Assam counterpart stretched on to Saturday with the AAP chief asking Himanta Biswa Sarma when should he come to see the schools of the northeastern state. The argument between the two leaders in the virtual space began after Kejriwal had on Wednesday tweeted that a closure of schools is not a solution and there is a need to open more schools across the country, and shared a link to a news report claiming a "closure" of some schools in Assam. Both Kejriwal and Sarma have exchanged several virtual verbal volleys in the past three days. On Saturday, the AAP supremo tweeted in Hindi, "There is a saying we have -- If someone asks 'When should I come' and they say 'Come whenever you can', then it means 'Don't come ever'. I had asked you -- 'When should I come to see your government schools', you didn't tell me. Tell me, when should I come, only then I can come." His fresh tweet came in response to the remarks made by .

Intention wasn't to point faults: Delhi CM Kejriwal to Himanta Biswa Sarma

A day after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asked his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal to "do his homework" before commenting, the AAP supremo said on Friday his intention was not to "point out faults" and that "we have to learn from each other" to make the country stronger. Kejriwal had, on Wednesday, tweeted that a closure of schools is not a solution and there is a need to open more schools across the country, and shared a link to a news report claiming a "closure" of some schools in Assam. Sarma took to Twitter on Thursday to lash out at Kejriwal over the amalgamation of schools and asked him to "do his homework" before commenting. "Dear @ArvindKejriwal Ji-as usual you commented on something without any homework! Since my days as Education Minister till now, please note, the Assam government has established/taken over 8,610 new schools," Sarma had tweeted. He had also asked how many schools did the Delhi government start in the last seven years. The Aam Aadmi Party (

Delhi more like municipal corporation, no comparison with Assam: Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday asserted there can be no comparison between the northeastern state and Delhi as the national capital is more like a municipal corporation. He asked his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal to come to Assam and see for himself government-run education and healthcare units, while stating that he will also visit similar facilities in Delhi during his frequent trips there. Sarma was reacting to claims by Kejriwal and other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders that Delhi has better education and healthcare facilities than Assam. Delhi is a state merely in name. It is more of a municipal corporation the senior BJP leader claimed. He argued that if Assam has to be compared with other states, it has to be done with places like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, or Punjab. I have seen their mohallah clinics'. But after seeing the facilities at our Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, what is there to see in those clinics? Sarma said. The chief minister was

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was on Tuesday summoned by a court in Assam to appear in person before it on September 29 in a criminal defamation case filed by the northeastern state's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup, Monmee Sarma, issued the summons to Sisodia for allegedly making defamatory statements against Sarma. Sisodia, referring to media reports at a press conference in New Delhi on June 4, had said that while the Assam government procured PPE kits for Rs 600 a piece from other companies, Sarma gave urgent supply orders to the firms of his wife and son's business partners for Rs 990 a piece.
