HP: 36 unauthorised hotels sealed in Kullu for violating norms
The Kullu district administration today sealed 36 unauthorised hotels operating in Himachal Pradesh's Parvati valley, officials said. The sealing drive was carried out by a team headed by Kullu Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Amit Guleria under tight police security. Guleria told PTI that the work of sealing of unauthorised hotels was carried out for several hours. Power and water connections were disconnected before sealing of the hotels, he said. The sealing of unauthorised hotels is being done in a phased manner. Forty such hotels in Manikaran valley in Kullu have already been sealed, Guleria said. He said around 70 unauthorised hotels are left to be sealed and it would be done within 20-25 days, in the next phase. These hotels have been found to be operating illegally as they violate several building and environmental norms, Guleria said. 2.8 lakh tourists visited J-K till May
More than 2.8 lakh tourists visited Jammu and Kashmir in the first five months of the current year even as the state administration has focused on improving the tourist infrastructure in the state. K Vijay Kumar, advisor to state Governor N N Vohra, today chaired a meeting of the tourism department to review its functioning and progress made on various developmental projects under several state and centre sponsored schemes. Tourism department officials informed Kumar that 2,81,906 tourists visited the state till May this year, an official spokesman said. He was told that various projects worth Rs 569.19 crore are in progress in the state and two installments have been released so far for different projects including construction of assets in lieu of those destroyed in 2014 floods. Kullu administration launches sealing drive against unauthorised hotels
The administration in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district today launched a drive to seal unauthorised hotels in the Parvati valley. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Kullu, Amit Guleria told PTI that the operation to seal unauthorised hotels is underway in the Parvati valley today. As many as 37 hotels have been found violating several building and environmental norms, he said. But the exact number of hotels sealed will only be known after the completion of the drive today evening as some of the hotel owners have reportedly razed their illegal portions to avoid sealing, Guleria added. Saudi woman drowns in Sri Lanka
A 24-year-old Saudi woman, drowned in a river in Sri Lanka when she was taking a boat trip during a family vacation in the island.Haya Al Dofairi decided to take a trip across a local river on an inflatable boat which capsized in the river leaving the family of eight struggling to swim across the river's current, as per Al Arabiya.Seven members of Al Dofairi's family were rescued but the young woman was nowhere to be found.Fifteen hours later, her body was found following which she was declared dead.Saudi Arabia's embassy in Sri Lanka sent their condolences to the victim's family, finalizing all procedures needed to take her back home for burial.
