Himachal govt has identified 113 places to be developed as eco-tourism sites: CM

The Himachal Pradesh government has identified 113 places to be developed from the eco-tourism sites, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said today. He was speaking at an event where Union Tourism minister K J Alphons emphasised the importance of tourism for the Indian economy. Global tourism grew by 7 per cent while tourism in India it grew by 15.6 per cent, Alphons said. Inaugurating a two day conference at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports in Kullu district, Thakur said five of the 113 sites would be developed in the public-private partnership mode, while the forest department will promote eco-tourism activity in 16 sites and the state forest corporation on another 47. In addition, 25 destinations would be developed by constructing log huts for stay of tourists in the lap of nature, he said. Women officers of eastern naval command scale peak in Leh

A 11-member Naval team, including two women officers from the Eastern Naval command here, reached the peak of the 6,250-metre high Mount Mentok Kangri on Rupshu plateau in eastern Leh on June 10, the Navy said today. The expedition, launched in end-May, included a trek for a week from Tsokar lake, crossing high passesranging from 4,800 metres to 5,400 metres and reaching base camp at 5,300 metres, a Navy release said. The team scaled the summit after 11 hours of climbing that included scaling a 70-degree wall of around 350 metres, traversing through a glacier amid occasional snowfall, it said. Before demolition drive, McLeodganj hoteliers asked to deposit firearms

Authorities have asked hoteliers in Himachal tourist hub McLeodganj to deposit their licensed weapons with the police to ensure that government workers are safe during a drive against illegal structures. The unusual direction follows a shooting last month at a similar demolition drive in Kasauli, where a hotelier allegedly killed assistant town planner Shail Bala Sharma and PWD employee Gulab Singh. Kangra Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar has now issued a notification under section 144 of the Indian Penal Code, asking hotel owners and their staff in McLeodganj to deposit their firearms so that a Supreme Court-ordered demolition drive is conducted smoothly. The IPC section bans joining an unlawful assembly with a weapon. A violation can lead up to two years in prison. Singapore hotel offers 250 free Trump-Kim burgers to celebrate summit

A luxury hotel in Singapore today distributed 250 special Trump-Kim burgers with American and Korean taste among public to celebrate the historic summit and allow people to enjoy the friendship while eating. The mini burgers were snapped up by people within 25 minutes, The Straits Times reported. The Royal Plaza on Scotts hotel, jumping onto the Trump-Kim summit bandwagon, gave away 250 special Trump-Kim burgers. US President Donald Trump today joined North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for a working lunch which had a mix of Western and Asian dishes, such as Korean stuffed cucumber and beef short rib confit with some Haagen-Dazs ice cream to top things off.
