Obama pays moving tribute to Bourdain

Former US President Barack Obama took to Twitter to pay a touching tribute to the globetrotting celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain who apparently committed suicide in a hotel room in France. Obama shared a photo of the celebrated USD 6 lunch he shared with Bourdain at a Hanoi restaurant in Vietnam in 2016. "Low plastic stool, cheap but delicious noodles, cold Hanoi beer. This is how I'll remember Tony," Obama tweeted. "He taught us about food but more importantly, about its ability to bring us together. To make us a little less afraid of the unknown. Tourists to pay more for ferry service after diesel price hike

Tourists visiting the famous Thiruvalluvar statue and Vivekananda Rock here will now have to shell out more for the ferry service following a steep hike in diesel price. The ordinary fare has been increased from Rs 34 to Rs 50 and the special fare from Rs 169 to Rs 200 in view of the increase in price of the fuel, an official release said. The Thiruvalluvar statue is a 133-foot tall stone sculpture of Tamil poet and philosopher Tiruvalluvar, author of the treatise 'Tirukkural' and is located about 400 metres off Kanyakumari coast. Vivekananda Rock Memorial has been built in the memory of Indian spiritual leader and philosopher Swami Vivekananda. It is around half a kilometre on a small island like rock, away from the shore of Kanyakumari.

Sadness at Vietnam noodle shop where Bourdain dined with Obama

The owner of a Hanoi noodle shop where Anthony Bourdain slurped down 'bun cha' with former US president Barack Obama expressed her shock and sorrow today over the death of the globetrotting American celebrity chef. Bun Cha Huong Lien restaurant in the Vietnamese capital's leafy Old Quarter soared to fame after the 2016 sit-down between Obama and Bourdain for his CNN show. The pair shared a simple meal of pork noodles and fried spring rolls - each dish worth around USD 3 - and photos of the casual dinner quickly went viral. Prosecutor: Bourdain hanged himself with bathrobe belt

The prosecutor of Colmar in France's Alsace region says that writer and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain hanged himself in the bathroom of his French hotel room. Prosecutor Christian de Rocquigny told The Associated Press today that the famed chef and host of the CNN series "Parts Unknown" used the belt of his hotel bath robe to commit suicide yesterday. Of the 61-year-old American's death, Rocquigny said "there is no element that makes us suspect that someone came into the room at any moment." He also said a medical expert had concluded there were no signs of violence on Bourdain's body. The prosecutor said toxicology tests were being carried out, including urine tests, to see if Bourdain took any medications, to try to help his family understand if anything led him to kill himself.

South Haryana heritage circuit to be developed as global tourist destination: Minister

The Madhogarh-Mahendragarh- Narnaul-Rewari heritage circuit in south Haryana would soon be developed as a global tourism destination under the central government's Swadesh Darshan Scheme, a state minister has said. A sum of Rs 100 crore would be spent on developing the circuit, Haryana Tourism Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said yesterday. He said he had discussed the matter with Union Minister of State for Tourism K J Alphons in Delhi recently. Another meeting is due on Monday with officials of the tourism department at Madhogarh Fort, located on top of Madhogarh Hill in the Aravalli mountain range in Mahendragarh district, to discuss the roadmap for the project, Sharma said. He said the state government was always interested in developing this area as a tourist hotspot. "Wherever tourism is developed, the area automatically gets developed," he said. Woman founf dead in hotel bathroom in Delhi

A woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside the bathroom of a luxury hotel in east Delhi's Mayur Vihar, the police said today. Police said they were awaiting the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death. The woman had checked into the hotel on June 6 with her male friend and her body was found yesterday. The woman was working in a beauty parlour in south Delhi. She was living in the city at her relative's home. Her male friend told police that he had left the hotel on Wednesday to meet his father. Her friend claimed that he made several phone calls yesterday but they went unanswered. He then informed the hotel staff to check on his friend but the room was found to be locked from inside. The hotel staff found her lying on the bathroom floor with head injuries, they said. Police were probing the matter.

MTDC, Airbnb eye 1,500 village tourism entrepreneurs in FY19

The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), has extended its partnership with global home-sharing platform Airbnb, under which it will create 1,500 tourism entrepreneurs in the state. The Tourism Entrepreneurship Accelerator Programme aims to attract a larger global audience and boost tourism in Maharashtra. "After signing an agreement for Tourism Entrepreneurship Accelerator Programme with Airbnb last year we already have 500 hosts enrolled on the community-driven hospitality company's platform generating regular income," Maharashtra Tourism Minister Jaykumar Rawal told reporters here. UP to draw up plan to develop Garhmukteshwar
