The Kerala government is targeting to double international tourists footfalls in the next five years, a senior government official has said. It is also expecting domestic tourism to increase by 50 per cent during the same time frame, he added. "To ensure the accomplishment of an ambitious target of a 100 per cent increase in arrival of foreign tourists and 50 per cent in domestic tourists in five years, a tourism regulatory authority has been formed," Kerala Tourism Deputy Director K Rajkumar said here. The New Delhi Municipal Corporation today told the Delhi High Court that it has withdrawn its yesterday's notice sealing certain portions of luxury hotel Le Meridien, which was part of alleged illegal construction. The court noted that the hotel will seek some documents and inspection reports of the premises from the NDMC. On receiving these documents, the hotel authorities would reply to the NDMC's January 19 show cause notice which had said that the construction carried out in the commercial block of the hotel was unauthorised" and without the prior approval of civic body. Thereafter, the corporation could take action as per law, the court noted. The matter had reached the high court after the hotel approached it against the corporation's move to seal certain portions, including restaurant, banquet halls, gymnasium and other common areas. The West Bengal CID has busted a flesh trade racket and rescued six girls from a city hotel, a senior official of the probe agency said today. Twelve people, including three women, were arrested during a raid in the hotel on Belghoria Expressway, on the northern fringes of the city, last night, he said. Two minors and four girls in their late teens were rescued from the spot, the official said. "We nabbed 12 people, including three women. Besides, cash amounting to Rs 2,28,050 was seized from the premises of the hotel along with other incriminating documents," he said, adding that a car used to ferry the girls was also impounded by the CBI sleuths.
Two foreign tourists are among three persons who suffered dog bites in the last few days prompting the civic body here to launch a campaign against stray animals on the streets of the city, an official said. A tourist from Chile suffered a dog bite yesterday in Menpura village, while a British tourist and her travel agent were bitten by dogs on Tuesday, a Nagar Parishad official said. The tourists were given primary treatment at the local hospital, he said. We are shifting stray dogs to other places. Gwalior-bound Gatiman Express today collided with a motorcycle which was abandoned by its rider on the rail tracks when he saw the approaching train, officials said. The incident took place near Farah between Mathura and Agra railway stations. The man was trying to cross the rail tracks but he abandoned the motorcycle when he saw the speeding train, the official said. As a result of the impact, the bike was destroyed. A new tourism regulatory authority of Kerala will be set up by the end of this year, a senior tourism department official said today. "As per our new tourism policy, the government is about to constitute a Tourism Regulatory Authority. As of now we don't have mandatory regulations with the Tourism department, and they rests with other departments like health and police department," K Rajkumar, Deputy Director, Department of Tourism, Kerala, told reporters here. "There will be (new) authority where by a single window clearance will be provided by the government wherein all tourism stakeholders will be roped in. We expect the new tourism regulatory authority to be set up by the end of this year (Dec 2018)," added Rajkumar.
