Manohar Parrikar to launch bike ambulances in Goa

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is set to launch 20 bike ambulances to deal with casualties in the tourism belt and other hot-spots.The two-wheeler ambulances, equipped with basic life-saving equipment and two oxygen cylinders will serve as rapid service at places where 108 ambulances (four-wheeler) cannot reach.Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that total 100 bike ambulances will be introduced in the state in next six month.He further said that Goa will be the second state after Karnataka to launch such ambulances.

8.29 pc increase in fgn exchange earnings from tourist ar'vals

The Kerala government today said foreign exchange earnings from tourist arrivals in the state stood at Rs 8,392.11 crore in 2017, a growth of 8.29 per cent when compared to the figures of the previous year. Foreign tourist arrivals increased by 5.15 per cent while domestic tourist arrivals grew by 11.39 per cent during the period,especially at a time when the tourism industry suffered adverse factors like enhanched GST rates and allied aspects, an official release quoting State Minister for Tourism and Devaswom Kadakampally Surendran said here today. With growth almost doubling than last year, domestic tourist arrivals achieved more than what was targeted in the Kerala Tourism Policy, it said. In terms of tourism revenue, total direct earnings from the sector grew to Rs 26000.33 crore from Rs 23098.15 crore, a growth of 12.56 per cent. Pahalgam Festival to start on Feb 17

The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism department today said the two-day 'Pahalgam Festival' later this month would be an important event to attract tourists to the south Kashmir resort. "The festival will start on February 17 and it will showcase our ethnic cuisine, street food and handicrafts, it will have village walks, forest walks and tonga (chariot) rides to promote the culture and heritage of Kashmir," Director Tourism, Kashmir, Mehmood Shah said here. He said that Pahalgam is generally a summer destination, but the department has started highlighting the potential of winter tourism at the health resort. The department has started ice-climbing which was previously unheard of in the area and is working on highlighting aspects of winter tourism, Shah said. "The place has a number of hotels and it is the budget hotels which bear the brunt of any situation. So, this festival is primarily to promote budget tourism," he said. The festival would also have a segment on shadow art .

Fire breaks out in hotel in downtown Berlin

German officials say a hotel in Berlin's central Potsdamer Platz has been evacuated after a fire broke out on an upper floor of the 11-story building. Fire department spokesman Andreas Ohlwein told The Associated Press today the fire started in a sauna of the Mandala Hotel sometime around 10 a.m. and then spread rapidly to the roof level. He says around 50 firefighers are on the scene battling the blaze from inside and outside the building and that no people are thought to be in danger. The Mandala has both hotel rooms and apartments. He says it's too early to speculate about the possible cause of the blaze.

Google has introduced updates to its existing "Google Flights" service that will now let users book a hotel at their travel destination directly from Search.

7-year-old Chinese boy earns USD 15,900 from teaching yoga

A seven-year-old Chinese boy who suffered from autism has emerged as the country's youngest yoga teacher, earning over USD 15,900 by teaching the ancient Indian practice to more than 100 students. Sun Chuyang, or Mike, from Taizhou city in Zhejiang province learned yoga for three years and received a certificate for yoga teaching a year ago. He has earned more than 100,000 yuan (USD 15,900) by teaching yoga, becoming the youngest yoga teacher in China, or perhaps the world, state-run China Daily reported. Sun has trained more than 100 students, it said. His mother said Sun learnt yoga to fight autism which he was diagnosed with in a day care centre when he was two-years old. To help heal him, his mother closed her apparel store and took him to practise yoga. Fadnavis asks UDD to submit DPR for Bal Thackeray memorial

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis today directed the Urban Development department (UDD) to submit a Detail Plan Report (DPR) of the proposed memorial to late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray. Fadnavis chaired a review meeting over the progress of the memorial, which is set to come up at the location that earlier housed the Mumbai Mayor's bungalow in Shivji Park area here. Senior Shiv Sena minister Subhash Desai, who is also a trustee of the committee formed to oversee the development in the project, said Fadnavis has asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, UDD and the environment department to submit a DPR so that work can start soon.
