BLA claims responsibility for attack on 5-star hotel in Balochistan; one guard shot dead
The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed the responsibility for the attack on Pearl Continental hotel here in which one security guard was shot dead."We claim the responsibility of Gawadar attack on PC hotel. The Cuban government says it will begin rationing chicken, eggs, rice, beans, soap and other basic products in the face of a grave economic crisis. Commerce Minister Betsy Daz Velzquez told the state-run Cuban News Agency Friday that various forms of rationing would be employed in order to deal with shortages of staple foods. She blamed the hardening of the US trade embargo by the Trump administration. Economists give equal or greater blame to a plunge in aid from Venezuela. Food stores in Cuba are government-run and sell products ranging from highly subsidized to wildly overpriced by global standards. She said chicken will now be sold in limited quantities, as will low-priced soap, eggs, rice, beans, lentils and sausages. High-priced goods appear to be unaffected, with the exception of chicken.

Burkina Faso: Two French soldiers killed rescuing hostages
Two French soldiers lost their lives during an operation aimed at rescuing four hostages in northern Burkina Faso, according to French officials.The rescue operation took place on the intervening night of May 9 and May 10, the French official added.Two French civilians, identified as Patrick Picque and Laurent Lassimouillas, were among the hostages, apart from a South Korean national and a US citizen, according to Sputnik.The tourists, who have now been rescued, had gone missing on May 1 from the Pendjari National Park in Benin, following which their local guide was found dead.Citing a security source, Sputnik reported that the car they were travelling in was found empty across the border in Burkina Faso. Furthermore, local media reports suggest that the tourists' guide had been shot dead.

Delhi: Man commits suicide in hotel room
A 42-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan in a hotel, police said on Friday.The deceased, identified as Yogesh, was a resident of the Geeta Colony area of the national capital. He was found hanging with a fan in a room of East Inn Hotel on Vikas Marg."During the investigation, it was revealed that Yogesh had come to the hotel in the morning at about 7 am. He had sent a message to his family before committing the act," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East Jasmeet Singh.Following the message, his family members came rushing to the hotel and broke the door, but found him hanging.A complaint was received at Preet Vihar Police Station regarding the suicide and a case was registered under relevant sections of the law.Further investigation in the matter is underway.

Will remove casinos from Mandovi river, says GSM's Velingkar
Former RSS functionary and Goa Suraksha Manch candidate for the Panaji Assembly bypoll, Subhash Velingkar, Friday said he would shift casinos operating on Mandovi river to the Arabian Sea if elected. Velingkar released his manifesto for the Panaji bypoll scheduled for May 19. Velingkar, a former Goa RSS chief, said as per law casinos have to be in the deep sea. "The casino industry has not only disturbed society and culture of the state but is also polluting the Mandovi river by discharging waste water into it. We will shift these casinos from Mandovi river and send them into the deep sea," Velingkar said. He alleged the casino lobby was allied with certain political parties and therefore no action was being taken against them. There are six off shore casinos operating on Mandovi, and the BJP-led state government had recently granted them a six-month extension to operate till September 30, 2019.
Man hangs self to death in East Delhi hotel
A 42-year-old boutique owner allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan at a hotel room in East Delhi's Preet Vihar area, police said Friday. The deceased was identified as Yogesh, a resident of Geeta colony, they said. According to Jasmeet Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), on Friday, the Preet Vihar Police Station got information regarding a suicide at a hotel near Vikas Marg. The body of a man was found hanging from a fan in a room of the hotel, Singh said. The hotel staff members said that Yogesh checked into the hotel on Thursday at around 7 am, police said. According to the DCP, the family members of the deceased told police that he had sent a message to them regarding the suicide, following which they rushed to the hotel and broke open the door of the room, only to find him hanging from the ceiling fan, the DCP said. Police seized 30 kg heroin from a hotel here during checking."A bag was recovered from a hotel room during checking, in which heroin was found. A case has been registered," Anita Sharma, SSP Ramban said on Thursday.Acting on reliable information regarding some illegal activity taking place near Banihal railway station, a police team led by SDPO, Banihal, Sajjad Sarwa, rushed to the railway station site and started checking the parked vehicles and adjoining hotels.'Nakas' were laid on all the link roads connecting the railway station as well as on the national highway. 30 kg heroin seized from hotel in J-K's Banihal
Thirty packets of heroin, weighing a total of 30 kg of the contraband, was seized from a hotel in Banihal belt of Ramban district Thursday, police said. The contraband was seized after police, based on a tip-off, conducted a search operation in and around the railway station and its adjoining hotels and guest houses, SSP Ramban Anita Sharma said. During the search, an unattended bag was found from a room in 'Hotel Chinar', the SSP said. After enquiry, it surfaced that the bag belonged to the guest who had checked-in a short while ago, she said. The bag had 30 packets of apparently equal size and quantity, she added. The forensic team confirmed the presence of heroin in the packets weighing one kg each, the SSP said, adding that the seized contraband values in several crores in the international market. France hotel stays tumble amid 'yellow vest' unrest
The number of overnight stays in hotels in France slumped in the first quarter, especially in Paris, the national statistics office said Thursday, blaming the nationwide "yellow vest" protest movement for putting off foreign tourists. In the first three months of 2019, the number of overnight stays in tourist accommodations in France fell 2.5 per cent from the same period the year earlier, statistics office INSEE said. Visits by foreigners fell the most dramatically, with 4.8 percent fewer overnight stays by non-residents recorded in the period. The Ile-de-France region which encompasses Paris posted the sharpest declines, with the number of overnight stays dropping 4.6 percent. This was "probably due to the movement of the yellow vests," Insee said.
