Two French soldiers lost their lives during an operation aimed at rescuing four hostages in northern Burkina Faso, according to French officials.The rescue operation took place on the intervening night of May 9 and May 10, the French official added.Two French civilians, identified as Patrick Picque and Laurent Lassimouillas, were among the hostages, apart from a South Korean national and a US citizen, according to Sputnik.The tourists, who have now been rescued, had gone missing on May 1 from the Pendjari National Park in Benin, following which their local guide was found dead.Citing a security source, Sputnik reported that the car they were travelling in was found empty across the border in Burkina Faso. A 42-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan in a hotel, police said on Friday.The deceased, identified as Yogesh, was a resident of the Geeta Colony area of the national capital. He had sent a message to his family before committing the act," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East Jasmeet Singh.Following the message, his family members came rushing to the hotel and broke the door, but found him hanging.A complaint was received at Preet Vihar Police Station regarding the suicide and a case was registered under relevant sections of the law.Further investigation in the matter is underway.

Velingkar released his manifesto for the Panaji bypoll scheduled for May 19. Velingkar, a former Goa RSS chief, said as per law casinos have to be in the deep sea. "The casino industry has not only disturbed society and culture of the state but is also polluting the Mandovi river by discharging waste water into it. We will shift these casinos from Mandovi river and send them into the deep sea," Velingkar said. He alleged the casino lobby was allied with certain political parties and therefore no action was being taken against them. Thirty packets of heroin, weighing a total of 30 kg of the contraband, was seized from a hotel in Banihal belt of Ramban district Thursday, police said. The contraband was seized after police, based on a tip-off, conducted a search operation in and around the railway station and its adjoining hotels and guest houses, SSP Ramban Anita Sharma said. During the search, an unattended bag was found from a room in 'Hotel Chinar', the SSP said. In the first three months of 2019, the number of overnight stays in tourist accommodations in France fell 2.5 per cent from the same period the year earlier, statistics office INSEE said. Visits by foreigners fell the most dramatically, with 4.8 percent fewer overnight stays by non-residents recorded in the period. The Ile-de-France region which encompasses Paris posted the sharpest declines, with the number of overnight stays dropping 4.6 percent. This was "probably due to the movement of the yellow vests," Insee said.
