Resolve grievances of partner hotels, FHRAI tells MakeMyTrip

The Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) Wednesday asked online travel firm MakeMyTrip to redress the grievances faced by its partner hotels regarding commissions and pricing. Around 270 hoteliers in Ahmedabad have stopped accepting bookings from MakeMyTrip and Goibibo travel portals, alleging heavy commission and indiscriminate discounts offered by them. Raising a number of issues in a letter to MakeMyTrip Chairman and Group CEO Deep Kalra, FHRAI said it desires to amicably resolve the issues but could opt for a nationwide protest against the organisation if they remain unresolved. One of the key issues mentioned is that online travel agencies (OTAs) are further discounting over and above the listed prices offered by the hotels without their consent, thereby causing loss of image to individual hotels and distortion of the market scenario. "It is also well known that the use of disparity clause (in rates) is one sided i.e. hotels cannot discount their own ..

Wild yeasts may hold key to better wines: Study

Yeasts that naturally occur on wine grapes may improve wines produced in warmer climates, according to a study. Up until now the use of these 'natural' or 'wild' yeasts during the production process has mostly been discouraged by wine makers, said researchers from the University of Adelaide in Australia. The study, published in the journal Scientific Reports, focussed on the effects of Lachancea thermotolerans yeast which occurs naturally on grapes. "This important research shows a potential new way for oenologists to improve the quality of wine grown in warm climates using different strains of naturally-occurring yeasts," said Vladimir Jiranek, a professor at the University of Adelaide. "Intentional over-ripening of grapes, as well as rising global temperatures due to climate change, produce excess sugar in grapes, which are converted to ethanol during fermentation. This results in highly alcoholic wines," said Ana Hranilovic, a recent PhD graduate from the University of ...
