Malaysian Airlines is keen to increase the number of flights to India and to launch direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kashmir, Malaysian High Commissioner to India Datuk Hidayat Abdul Hamid has said. Hamid, who was on a three-day tour of Kashmir, said increased flights between the two countries will further boost tourist flow from Malaysia. Piling of waste on Goa beaches has set the ruling BJP and its ally MGP against each other, with state deputy speaker Michael Lobo of the BJP Monday demanding that Tourism department hand over its mandate to issue tenders for appointing a cleaning agency to a state-run body. Waste lies strewn on the beaches since November 16 when a private agency, Drishti, entrusted with the task of garbage collection stopping the work due to expiry of the contract. State Tourism department is yet to appoint a new contractor for the purpose. Lobo, who represents Calangute seat, has expressed apprehension that the unattended waste may impact peak tourist season which is setting in. Tripura will be hosting a 3-day tourism fair from November 22 to promote the tourism industry in the northeastern states of the country, a minister said Sunday. The 3-day long International Tourism Mart' would begin here from November 22 with an objective to promote tourism in the northeastern states. We are hosting the event with funding from the Ministry of Tourism," state Tourism Minister Pranajit Singha Roy told a press conference here. The International Tourism Mart is an annual event that is held in the northeastern states. Tripura will be hosting it for the first time this year. The estimated budget of the fair this year is Rs 2.6 crore. After day-long parleys, traders Saturday agreed to put up stalls for the 11-day long Baliyatra festival here beginning from Friday next week, officials said. "We have now decided to participate in the fair actively and make the festival a success after the district administration fulfilled all our demands after discussions," said Baliyatra Byabasay Sangh president Sukant Mohanty. The traders were demanding multiple allotments of plots to erect bigger stalls and allotment of space for joy ride vendors without any auction. There will be no auction for giant wheel vendors and the multiple allotments of stalls will be allowed, Mohanty said. Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has directed authorities to develop safe selfie points and install special lighting equipment for theme-based illumination of the Signature Bridge to make it a "truly iconic tourist destination". In his note to the additional chief secretary (PWD), tourism secretary and DTTDC's managing director, Sisodia said a parking facility and a children's park will also be developed near the bridge. "The Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) and the PWD have been successful in making the bridge operational and it is necessary for both these agencies to work towards making the bridge a major tourist attraction in Delhi," Sisodia said in the note. "A presentation on the above facilities making the Signature Bridge a truly iconic tourist destination be made by DTTDC, PWD and the tourism department," he said.
