Statue of Unity expected to attract 10,000 tourists daily

Standing on Sadhu Bet, an islet near Sardar Sarovar Dam, the 'Statue Of Unity' in Narmada district of Gujarat is expected to be a major tourist attraction. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday. Believed to be the world's tallest monument, it is expected to attract around 10,000 tourists daily, a state government official said. At 182 metres, the statue of India's first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty in the US. Built with cement, steel and an outer bronze cladding, the statue, which has cost Rs 2,989 crore, has several attractions for tourists. The nearest major town is Vadodara, 100 km away. A visitor can take a lift installed inside the statue which runs at a speed of 4 metres per second to reach a viewers gallery at a height of 135 metres. Statue of Unity: World's tallest statue constructed in record 33 months

The Statue of Unity, an architechtural marvel dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, is the tallest statue in the world and the quickest to be completed in just 33 months, says infrastructure giant Larsen & Toubro. At 182 metres from the road entry and 208.5 metres from the river entry, the iconic statue is taller than the 153m Spring Temple Buddha in China and almost twice the height of the world-famous Statue of Liberty in New York. "At 182 meters (597 feet), the steel, concrete and brass-clad statue is the tallest in the world and Larsen & Toubro is proud to have constructed it in a record time of 33 months," the engineering giant which built the mega statue said. Hotels in Dharamshala reduce tariffs, offer discounts to revive lost business

Hoteliers in this popular hill station of Himachal Pradesh are trying to attract tourist by reducing tariffs and offering special discounts during Diwali in order to revive their business that has suffered hugely after the high court shut around 80 illegally built hotels here. Tourist footfall in the town saw a loss of around 70 per cent this year as the Himachal Pradesh High Court had issued directives to close around 80 illegally constructed hotels and guesthouses in and around Dharamshala town. The court had also disconnected their water and electricity connections. There are only 100 hotels operating in the area at present and tourist are avoiding booking hotels online after the court's order which has affected the traders, Hotel Association President of McLeodganj Ashwini Bamba said. Bike rally flagged off to promote tourism in J-K's Chenab Valley

As many as 48 bike enthusiasts from different parts of the country Wednesday embarked on a motorcycle rally, organised by authorities here as part of their effort to promote tourism in Jammu and Kashmir's Chenab Valley. Modi reaches Gujarat to unveil 'Statue of Unity'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ahmedabad on Tuesday night ahead of the unveiling of the 'Statue of Unity' in Gujarat's Narmada district on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The 182-metre structure of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is touted as the world's tallest. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the world's tallest statue the 'Statue of Unity' at Kevadiya in Gujarat on Wednesday. The 182-metre statue of Vallabhbhai Patel will be dedicated to the nation on his birth anniversary in Narmada District of Gujarat. Food Park to be developed around Rohtang tunnel in HP: CM

No change in Shivaji memorial site, says Fadnavis

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ruled out the possibility of shifting the proposed Chhatrapati Shivaji Memorial from its present location in the Arabian Sea off Mumbai coast. On October 24, one person had died when a boat carrying 25 people capsized in the Arabian Sea off the Mumbai coast when it was heading to the site of the proposed Chhatrapati Shivaji memorial, where work was to begin that day. The tragedy has revived the demand to shift the ambitious project on land in the city. "There is no reason for changing the location (of Shivaji memorial). The memorial will take shape at the same place. We have (already) begun the work," Fadnavis said while interacting with select media persons Monday night. Terming the last week's accident as unfortunate, Fadnavis said, "Initial probe into it has suggested that the accident took place after the boat operator took a short cut en route to the memorial site." Prabhu for developing Maharashtra coast as tourist destination

Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu has urged the Tourism Ministry and the Maharashtra government to consider a proposal for the development of scuba diving and aquarium in Sindhudurg to promote marine tourism. The commerce ministry has received a proposal from the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) and the Indian Institute of Scuba Diving and Aquatic Sports (IISDA) Malwan, Sindhudurg, for setting up of these facilities under a comprehensive plan to encourage marine tourism along the coast of Maharashtra, according to a letter by Prabhu to the tourism department and the state government. In the letter to Tourism Minister K J Alphons and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the commerce minister noted that the marine leisure sector is the fastest growing segment of the travel industry.
