5 tourists killed, 2 injured as car falls into gorge near Ooty

Five tourists were killed and two others rescued in an unconscious state after their car fell into a 500-foot gorge at Kalhatti, near this famous hill resort town, police said Wednesday. The mishap was suspected to have occurred Tuesday and came to light only a day later. The seven, hailing from Tuticorin, were reported missing since Tuesday afternoon after they set out on a sightseeing trip to Masinagudi, about 30 km from here, in the morning. On being alerted by the staff of the hotel, where the tourists were staying, police carried out a search and based on mobile phone signals traced the car in the gorge near a hairpin bend. Police said they found five people dead and the two others unconscious. One of the two had been hospitalised here, while the other was taken to Mysuru, they said. The victims had arrived here on September 30.

Suzuki Motorcycle drives in RM-Z250, RM-Z450 bikes to India

Rats gulped seized liquor claims Bihar police

Authorities in Bihar's Kaimur district have blamed rats for gulping down seized liquor.The incident reportedly came to light yesterday when the authorities in the district opened the storeroom to destroy a total of 11,584 bottles seized during the raids in the past two years."The beer cans seem to have been destroyed by rats. We saw big holes on the bottle caps when we opened the cartons," informed local sub-divisional magistrate Kumari Anupama.During the verification of liquor stocks, it was found that the beer cans were empty with big holes visible in their caps.As per reports, in May 2017, the rats had been blamed for consuming several thousand litres of seized alcohol, after the confiscated bottles, had gone missing from the storerooms.

Upgrade airport in Agra as international facility: Marchers to govt

A march was organised by some civil society groups here on Tuesday to demand upgradation of the airport in Kheria as an international facility and increase in air connectivity with major cities of India. Hundreds of people marched from Shahid Bhagat Singh Hostel to Shahid Smarak in the city with placards. They raised slogans to remind the Modi government of its election promise of an international airport in Agra in Uttar Pradesh. Anil Sharma, convener of the Civil Aviation Society, told PTI, "For years we have been running this campaign but the union government has not yet responded to it. Smaller towns have got air connectivity under the UDAN scheme but Agra's case continues to be ignored. New tourist season set to begin in Goa from Oct 4

Goa is all set to commence its new tourist season from October 4 when the first chartered flight carrying visitors from Russia will land in the state. Tourism industry is one the key revenue earners for Goa, which has several picturesque beaches along its 105-km- long coastline, attracting over six million visitors annually. "The first chartered flight of tourists from Russia will arrive on October 4 at the Dabolim airport in the state," Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) president Savio Messiah told PTI. TTAG is the apex body of tour operators in Goa. Though countries like Egypt and Turkey attract travellers with their cheaper holiday packages, the Indian coastal state is banking on its conventional visitors from Russia and the UK to pep up the tourist season, Messiah said. UK's St Pancras station turns 150, passengers treated to slice of history

London's iconic St Pancras railway station, a Victorian Gothic wonder built literally over beer vaults and which was saved from demolition by a spirited campaign from a noted poet, turned 150 on Monday amid big celebrations. It was on this day in 1868 at 4:20 am, the first train from Leeds had arrived at St Pancras, according to information shared by station authorities. Man dies of suspected drug overdose in Goa

A 24-year-old picnicker from Hyderabad, staying in a hotel at popular Anjuna beach in Goa, died in Panaji Monday, the police said. Police suspect drug overdose as the cause behind the death of Shashank Sharma who was holidaying in North Goa along with his brother and a friend. The trio were staying in a hotel at Anjuna beach since Saturday, a police official said. "Sharma returned to the hotel after having dinner with two others at around 1:30 AM Monday. He went out again and returned one hour later," said Anjuna police inspector C L Patil. As Sharma was feeling giddying and uneasy, he was shifted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital near Panaji where he died during treatment, he said. "It could be a case of drug overdose, but we need to wait for the medical reports before arriving at any conclusion," he said. Anjuna is a famous beach in North Goa favoured by tourists.
