'Super-Earth' found orbiting Sun's nearest solitary star
Astronomers have discovered a frozen 'super Earth' orbiting the closest solitary star to the Sun, a breakthrough that could shine light on our planet's nearest planetary neighbours. The potentially rocky planet, known as Barnard's star b, is a 'super-Earth' and orbits around its host star once every 233 days, said researchers from Queen Mary University of London in the UK. The findings, published in the journal Nature, show the planet lies at a distant region from the star known as the 'snow line'. This is well beyond the habitable zone in which liquid water, and possibly life, could exist, researchers said. The planet's surface temperature is estimated to be around minus 170 degrees Celsius, meaning it is likely to be a frozen world which is uninviting to Earth-like life, they said. HP panchayats asked to apply online for national awards
Himachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Institutes have been asked to apply online for national awards to be given by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj next year on the occasion of National Panchayat Day. Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Virender Kanwar Thursday revealed that the award would be given to one zila parishad, two panchayat samitis, three gram panchayats and one gram sabha of the state. Besides, the Union government will also award the best panchayat of the state, he added. Kanwar appealed to the pradhans and secretaries of all the gram panchayats of the state to apply online on "http://panchayatawards.gov.in/" for these awards. The last date to apply has been extended up to November 22.

The style of addressing with 'his or her highness' cannot be used any more for the Uttarakhand Governor. Governor Baby Rani Maurya has issued instructions not to use "his or her highness" as a term of greeting the governor.
