Another suspicious package addressed to the CNN headquarters in Atlanta was intercepted on Monday. "The package was intercepted at an Atlanta post office. There is no imminent danger to the CNN Center," CNN President Jeff Zucker said in a statement.According to reports, the Atlanta Police Department responded to a call at 9:38 am (local time) about the suspicious package at a post office near the CNN Center. The package intercepted looked similar in appearance to the pipe bombs that were sent to high-profile politicians including former president Barack Obama, former First Lady of the United States Hilary Clinton, and to the CNN's New York bureau.A pipe-bomb suspect Cesar Sayoc was arrested by the cops on Friday and is due in court on Monday, CNN reported.A total of 11 suspicious packages have been retrieved in the past week.
More than 20 dogs were found dead Monday at a village near here from suspected poisoning, police said. Police said the dogs in Karasangal village had been given meat mixed with some pesticide Sunday night allegedly by cattle rustlers because the animals alerted owners and put a check on such incidents. They said for past one year there were frequent complaints of cattle thefts, forcing villagers to rear pet dogs and also feed street dogs. With the dogs keeping vigil, incidents of cattle theft came down substantially during the last one month, they claimed.

Union minister Kiren Rijiju Monday paid tribute to the police martyrs at a special function organised by the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) here at the national police memorial. In the programme 'An Ode to Martyrs', organised by the ITBP, women commando contingent, ski contingent, regular contingent and para troopers saluted the memorial through a march past while a women band presented a special display, a home ministry release said. The programme concluded with the tune 'Abide with me'. The ITBP guards the Sino-Indian border along the Himalayan frontiers. Over a week after the Amritsar train accident, in which at least 60 people died, the National Student Union of India (NSUI) on Sunday organised an event a few meters away from the railway tracks in Dhuri Line. Congress Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Surendra Singh Dawar was invited as the chief guest for the event, which was organised to appoint a new office bearer for the NSUI."I was completely unaware about where the event is being organised. Ever since I have come here, I have been asking people to stay away from the railway line. When I got to know about the location, I asked the concerned police station to ensure proper security near the tracks," Dawar said.According to Dawar, the organisers had taken permission from the concerned authorities for the event.However, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Gurdeep Singh Gosh has demanded an inquiry into the matter, stating that the authorities cannot give permission to conduct an event near the railway tracks.

The mortal remains of CISF personnel Rajendra Prasad were Sunday consigned to flames with state honours in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district. Prasad, an assistant sub-inspector with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), was killed in an encounter with terrorists in Nowgaon area of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The last rites were held at Prasad's native village in Chainpura and the funeral pyre was lit by his sons Pradeep and Satyendra. Public representatives, officials from the Army, district administration and police paid floral tributes to Prasad.
One person died after falling from a moving train in Assam's Dima Hasao district on Sunday, police said. The man who was travelling in a Guwahati-bound passenger train from Silchar slipped from the train at New Haflong Railway station and was dragged for about 20 metres, the police said. On seeing this, other passengers alerted the railway authorities and the train was stopped. The man was lifted from the tracks but he succumbed to his injuries at the station, the police said. The deceased was identified as Subrata Paul of Silchar town. The body of the deceased has been sent to Haflong Civil Hospital for post mortem.
