Man killed after being hit by train in J-K
A 35-year-old man was killed after being hit by a train in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, a Government Railway Police (GRP) official said on Sunday. The man was crossing the track near the Bari Brahmana railway station when he was hit by Hemkunt express on Saturday evening and died on the spot, the official said. He said the identity of the deceased is being ascertained.

Royals Harry and Meghan arrive in New Zealand for 4-day tour
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were greeted in New Zealand with a traditional Maori welcome on Sunday afternoon on the final leg of their 16-day tour of the South Pacific. Prince Harry and wife Meghan each performed a "hongi" with indigenous Maori elders, in which they pressed noses together to share a breath. They were welcomed with traditional haka performances and a 21-gun salute at Government House in the capital, Wellington. The couple are scheduled to spend four days in New Zealand, where they will meet with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, go for a trail walk in a national park, meet young people training to be part of the film industry, and visit a hatchery for the national bird, the kiwi. U'khand CM pays tribute to soldier killed in stone pelting in J&K
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat Saturday paid tributes to Army soldier Rajendra Singh Bungla who died after being pelted by a stone by a mob in Jammu and Kashmir. The chief minister, Army and administrative officials paid tribute to the 22-year-old soldier by laying a wreath on his mortal remains which were brought to Pithoragarh Army headquarters Saturday by an Army aircraft. The Army gave a Guard of Honour to the martyr. Bungla belonged to Badena village in Gangolihat area of Pithoragarh district. He died at a hospital in Srinagar Friday after he sustained head injuries during stone-pelting by a group of youths Thursday. Paying tributes to the martyr, Rawat said Bungla will always be remembered for laying down his life for the country. He said the state government was with his family at this hour of grief.
Man, son fall to death as window grill breaks
A 65-year-old man and his son died Saturday after falling from a building in suburban Versova, police said. The mishap took place at Sagarkanya building in Versova when work of a window grill was going on on the sixth floor, a police official said. Krishna Dinkar Jadhav (65) and his son Kishor (35) fell when the grill gave way, he said. Both were declared dead on arrival at hospital, the official added.

Ex-prez Rajapaksa's life also under threat: Lanka Opposition
Sri Lanka's Parliament was told on Friday that the life of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa is also under threat, following an alleged plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and Rajapaksa's brother. "I have to inform the house that despite instructions to increase the personal security of the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa due to threats on his life we have seen no such action. We urge immediate action," said Dinesh Gunawardena, leader of the joint opposition. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in response said that adequate security had been provided at three residences of Rajapaksa, including deployment of the police's crack special task force which can be further strengthened if required. Last month, a man named Namal Kumara had alleged that there was a plot to assassinate Sirisena and Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the former top defence ministry bureaucrat and brother of the ex-president, which had led to arrests, including of an Indian national here.

Pak lawyer Asma Jahangir wins UN Human Rights Prize posthumously
Pakistan's iconic human rights activist and lawyer Asma Jahangir was posthumously awarded the 2018 UN Human Rights Prize. She was one of the four winners of the award which was announced by the United Nations on Thursday. The announcement was made through the Twitter account of the President of the UN General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces, Dawn news reported. "Today I announced the 2018 winners of the UN Human Rights Prize," Garces said, before naming Jahangir and three other recipients -- Tanzanian activist Rebeca Gyumi, Brazil's first indigenous lawyer Joenia Wapichana and Ireland's human rights organisation Front Line Defenders -- as winners. "Your work is an inspiration to us," she said. Jahangir got the prize posthumously, the report added. The "United Nations Prize in the Field of Human Rights" is an honorary award given for outstanding achievement in human rights, the world body said. The award ceremony will take place in New York on December 10 on World Human Rights

- The queen's last corgi is dead -- long live the dorgi. The little dogs with pointy ears, often sandy-coloured, have been a constant presence in Queen Elizabeth II's court, following her from room to room in Buckingham Palace and featuring prominently in official photos. But Willow, the last corgi the queen reared herself, died in April. And now Whisper, a 12-year-old she adopted after the death of its owner -- a former gamekeeper of one of the royal estates -- is no more, leaving the queen "deeply saddened", The Daily Mail reported. Buckingham Palace refused to comment. British media reports in 2015 said the 92-year-old British monarch had stopped raising corgis so as not to leave them orphaned after her death. Nevertheless, the queen still has two dorgis to keep her company. Candy and Vulcan, said The Daily Mail, are "dachshund and corgi crosses (who) are also rather more familiar with the Queen's routine".
