Hry: Cops remove woman's half-burnt body from pyre to probe cause of death

The Haryana police Sunday pulled out the half-burnt body of a Class 11 girl from the funeral pyre in a village near Meham town in Rohtak district after suspecting foul play behind her death. Someone from the village had informed the police about the girl's death and indicated that she did not die of natural causes, a police official said. The police swung into action and reached the village's cremation ground, where the funeral pyre had already been lit, he said. The fire was extinguished and the remains of her half-burnt body were collected, the official added. He said the girl's family told the police that she died after complaining of discomfort in her chest and stomach. "The body has been sent for post-mortem at the PGIMS, Rohtak, to ascertain the cause of the death. We are awaiting the report and will initiate further action accordingly," the official said.

India's first exclusive dog park comes up in Hyderabad

Billed as the countrys first, an exclusive and certified 'Dog Park' boasting of facilities including a walking track, off leash areas and a clinic is all set for inauguration at Kondapur here. Spread over 1.3 acres, the park has been developed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) at a cost of Rs 1.1 crore on a site which was earlier a dump yard. It also has dog training and exercise equipment, splash pool, two lawns, an amphitheatre, loo cafe, separate enclosures for big and small dogs among other facilities, a senior GHMC official said. "This is the countrys first exclusive and first certified Dog Park. There will also be a Vet on site apart from dog trainer, protocols for cleaning as per standards and free vaccination will be administered (to the pets)", GHMC Zonal Commissioner D Harichandana told PTI. Kuwaiti couple gets jail sentence for airport attack

A Kuwaiti man and woman convicted of assaulting customs officers at Sri Lanka's main international airport were handed a six month jail sentence suspended for five years, an official said Saturday. A magistrate sentenced on Friday the 32-year-old woman and her 29-year-old male partner, who were also fined 138,000 rupees (USD 860). They were arrested trying to smuggle in a Burmese Mastiff into the country in July without following quarantine procedures. The woman was caught on CCTV cameras assaulting customs officers who tried to stop them. Bringing pets into the island without quarantine clearance can lead to the forfeiture of the animal as well as a fine of up to 100,000 rupees (USD 625). Customs spokesman Vipula Minuwanpitiya said the pet dog was confiscated and later given back to the couple to be taken out of the country.
