Sharif, daughter released on parole to attend Begum Kulsoom's funeral
The Pakistan government released former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz from Adiala Jail on parole late Wednesday night to attend the funeral of his wife, Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, reported Geo News.Kulsoom Nawaz passed way in London on Tuesday after a period of prolonged illness. Honour killing: Woman strangulated by father, brother
In a suspected case of honour killing, the West Bengal Police has arrested the father and brother of a Muslim woman on the charge of murdering her for being in a relationship with a Hindu man. The duo, residents of Bihar's Jamalpur, were arrested from Kolkata on Monday by Purba Burdwan district police, a senior officer said. Police had on August 31 recovered the body of a woman whose face was mutilated with a stone, from an agricultural land around 19 km from here, he said. "During the post-mortem, we found two numbers jotted on her body, following which we got hold of the man with whom she was in a relationship," the officer said. A police team then reached the man's residence in Mumbai, and he gave details about the woman's place of residence and her family members. Acting on his inputs, police arrested the woman's father and brother, who worked as drivers in Kolkata. Mahendra Munda alias Ritesh Munda, the self-styled area commander of the banned CPI (Maoist)'s Silli-Kasmar sub-zone in Ranchi district, turned in before Deputy Inspector General of Police A V Homkar, Khunti Superintendent of Police Aswini Kumar Sinha and other police officials. He joined the proscribed outfit in 2011 and is facing cases in Khunti and Saraikela-Kharsawan districts, the statement said. World trade body to hear China appeal for sanctions vs US
The World Trade Organization says its dispute settlement body will take up China's request to be allowed to impose sanctions against the United States for failing to abide by a WTO ruling on anti-dumping measures. WTO Director-General Roberto Azevedo said in a note Tuesday that a hearing is expected September 21 into the case, which originated with a Chinese challenge in December 2013 of over 40 US anti-dumping rulings against Chinese goods. Next week's session follows a May 2017 ruling largely in favour of China by the WTO's appellate body, which China says the US has failed to honour. The case centers on US trade limits on Chinese products that the US says are sold below market value. They include steel, coated paper, off-road tires, solar cells and diamond saw blades.
