Congratulations pour in as Dutee Chand clinches second silver

With Odisha born athlete Dutee Chand winning another silver medal at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta today, state Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated her for the achievement. The 22-year-old athlete from Odisha's Jajpur district clinched second position in women's 200m event. She won another silver in the women's 100m dash on Sunday. "I congratulate Dutee Chand for her stellar performance in the Asian Games," Patnaik said in a statement. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also congratulated her. The famous silk gown worn by Meghan Markle that had a selection of flora, including an Indian lotus, in its veil when she married Prince Harry in May is to go on public display at Windsor Castle. The famous Givenchy dress, designed by British designer Clare Waight Keller for the French fashion house, will be on display complete with the Duchess of Sussex's five-meter-long veil. A long-serving South Korean police dog killed in the line of duty -- by a snake -- will be honoured with a rare ceremony next month in a country where a million of his fellow canines are estimated to be eaten every year. Larry, a seven-year-old German shepherd, was searching for a missing person on a mountain in North Chungcheong province when the reptile bit him on his left hind leg in July. TN CM lauds athlete Arokia Rajiv for winning silver in Asian

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami today lauded state athlete Arokia Rajiv, member of the silver winning 400m mixed relay team in the ongoing Asian Games, for his feat and announced Rs 30 lakh cash incentive. "I convey my hearty congratulations to you on behalf of the people and Government of Tamil Nadu on your splendid achievement," Palaniswami said in a letter to Rajiv. Rajiv had made the the state and India proud with his achievement, he added. Asiad: Chouhan announces Rs 75 lakh award for MP woman archer

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced an award of Rs 75 lakh for Muskan Kirar, a member of the women's compound archery team that won a silver medal at the Asian Games in Jakarta. Chouhan said that, Kirar, a resident of MP's Jabalpur district, has made the state proud with her achievement at the 18th Asian Games, currently underway in Indonesia. Kirar is a member of the MP State Archery Academy. "The chief minister announced last night to give an award of Rs 75 lakh to Kirar for her achievement. He described her success as a pride moment for Madhya Pradesh and the sports world," a public relations department official said today. The team comprising Kirar, Madhumita Kumari and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, won the silver medal in the final match against Korea yesterday. The Indian team lost 228-231 in a contest that went down to the wire till the final set of arrows.

UP: Neglected by hospitals, woman delivers baby roadside

A woman, named Sunita, was forced to deliver a baby on the roadside in the Bhinga area of Uttar Pradesh's Shravasti district on Tuesday, after she was apparently referred multiple times from one hospital to another."When my wife felt labour pain, I took her to a hospital in Sirsiya via ambulance. However, they referred my wife to the district hospital. Later on, when we reach the district hospital in Bhinga, they also asked me to take her to a hospital in Bahraich. However, I didn't have enough money. My wife had to deliver the baby on road," Sunita's husband Ramesh told ANI.The District Magistrate of Shravasti district, Deepak Meena said he has ordered in inquiry in the case."We have got to know that a woman gave birth to a child on roadside. We have asked for an inquiry in this case. If anyone will be found guilty, then that person will be punished," Meena told ANI.
