Without liberty life is nothing, Chief Justice Dipak Misra said today, remarking that one feels "half-dead" if one loses one's liberty without due procedure of the law being followed. The chief justice made the remark during his speech at an event of a private university in Gautam Buddh Nagar's Greater Noida this evening. The CJI referred to the 12th century Magna Carta to say that it was a document at one point of time, but now it is a symbol, a metaphor as it stands as a pillar for a properly and constitutionally governed democracy. Hyderabad: Infant flung to ground by mother
A woman threw her one-month-old infant to the ground in a fit of rage after she was involved in a brawl with her husband at Hyderabad's Mehdipatnam area on Monday.In a video footage, the incident took place when the couple had an argument and the woman could be seen shouting at a man, apparently at her husband. As the man tried to evade her, the woman continued ranting and tried to hand over the baby to him.When the man refused to hold the child, the woman, in a fit of rage, flung the infant to the ground. Later, locals and traffic police intervened and stopped the couple from quarrelling. A policeman could later be seen holding the child in the video.According to an inspector of Humayun Nagar police station, the police had got the information through the traffic personnel that a couple was in an inebriated state and is arguing on the road. He further confirmed that the mother had thrown her child to the ground."Immediately we reached the spot and handed over the infant to the family .
Mentally unsound woman reunited with family in J-K
A mentally unsound woman was today reunited with her family after she was found wandering in Samba district's Bari Brahmana area, the police said. The 55-year-old woman, hailing from Udhampur district, had left her house some time back and was found wandering at SIDCO Chowk this morning, a police official said. He said the woman, who seems to be mentally unsound, was brought to the police station and she revealed that her name was Pushpa. After strenuous efforts, the police contacted Tikri police post in-charge and got the mobile number of her husband Balbir Singh, the police official said. Singh was called to the police station to identify the woman and she was handed over to him after proper verification.

The award was presented to Mahajan by social activist Medha Patkar. "For Mahajan, it was a journey that began in 1989 as a student of social work, when she became acquainted with the Katkari adivasis, who traditionally survived on extracting katha from the Acacia catechu trees growing in local forests," Patkar said. A vehicle carrying bones of animals, sacrificed during Eid al-Adha, was set on fire by four unidentified people in Katghar police station limits on Sunday.The driver and conductor were apparently beaten by four men, however, they managed to escape the site and soon reached Katghar police station to lodge a complaint."We received information that a car carrying bones of animals, was set on fire by unidentified men. We have registered an FIR in the case and have started looking for culprits," Circle Officer (CO) Sudesh Kumar told ANI.Eid al-Adha, also known as 'Sacrifice Feast' and 'Bakri Eid', was celebrated on August 22.
