Family members and close friends of actor Priyanka Chopra and American singer Nick Jonas attended a party hosted by the couple after sealing their relationship with an engagement ceremony. The couple got engaged yesterday at Priyanka's residence in Juhu. Five priests conducted the puja ceremony that began at around 10.30 am and lasted for about four hours. Those who attended the private event included Priyanka's sister Parineeti Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Vishal Bhardwaj, Sidharth Roy Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra, Arpita Khan, Mushtaq Sheikh, and Shrishti Behl. Industrialist Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita too joined the festivities. Priyanka confirmed the news about her engagement on the social media along with some photos of the ceremony. She hasn't revealed the wedding date yet. While the actor wore a yellow Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla salwar suit, Nick donned an ivory kurta churidar. Nick and his family including his parents and brothers arrived in the city on Thursday night.

MP to name 3 awards after Vajpayee: Shivraj Chouhan
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday announced that the state government will name three awards after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away on August 16.Speaking at an event, Chouhan said, "We will name three awards after Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji. One will be for poets, the second will be for the outstanding contribution in the field of journalism, and third for good work in administration."Vajpayee, who was India's 10th prime minister breathed his last at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after a prolonged illness. The 93-year-old was cremated with full state honours at Smriti Sthal in New Delhi on August 17.The Central and all the state governments have decided to observe a seven-day mourning to honour the veteran politician. Vajpayee, who led the National Democratic Alliance government from 1998 to 2004, was the first-ever member of the BJP to become India's Prime Minister.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today condoled the death of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, describing him as "a great African diplomat and a humanistic personality". Kofi Annan, who served two terms as UN secretary General from January 1, 1997, to December 31, 2006, died at the age of 80 in Switzerland.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das today said that ashes of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away on August 16, will be immersed in four/five major rivers of the state. He said Vajpayee was the creator of Jharkhand and hence his passing away is an irreparable loss for us. Jharkhand was bifurcated from Bihar and made a new state in 2000 when NDA government headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee was at the helm of affairs at the Centre. His ashes will be immersed in four/five major rivers of Jharkhand, said Das, who returned today after attending the funeral of the former prime minister yesterday at Shakti Sthal in Delhi. The chief minister said that the government is also pondering over to introduce programmes after his name and memorial so that the coming generations will know about his thoughts and works, according to an official release.

The Indian cricketers today wore black arm bands on the first day of the third Test against England here as a mark of respect to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and ex captain Ajit Wadekar, who passed away earlier this week. Just before the start of the day's play, the Indian players, led by Virat Kohli, were seen wearing black arm bands in memory of the departed former prime minister and ex skipper. "The Indian Cricket Team is wearing black armbands as a mark of respect to former India captain Shri Ajit Wadekar and former India Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away recently," the BCCI tweeted. Wadekar, who passed away on August 15, led India to their first away series victory in West Indies and England in 1971, died in Mumbai on August 15 after a prolonged illness. He was 77. Former PM Vajpayee passed away on August 16.
