The government will take all the measures to make India competitive in producing green hydrogen, Union Minister R K Singh said. The minister for power, new and renewable energy made the remarks during a meeting with the green hydrogen developers on October 19, an official statement said on Friday. "With our single unified grid and large renewable capacity, India can produce the cheapest green hydrogen in the world. We will do everything in our power to make India competitive in producing green hydrogen and to achieve the targets set out in the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM)," the minister was quoted as saying in the MNRE statement. The meeting aimed to understand the issues faced by the developers and how the government can help overcome these issues like SEZ policies, regulatory provisions for enabling dual connectivity, certain contractual conditions, and demand charges being levied by states among others. A presentation at the meeting showed that for producing 1 million

Syama Prasad Mookherjee Port (SMP), formerly known as Kolkata Port Trust, and NTPC Green Energy (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, will form a joint working group to set up a green hydrogen and ammonia hub at the port, an official said on Sunday. The MoU between the two public sector entities was signed last week, aiming to explore opportunities for the production, storage, handling, and bunkering of green hydrogen, green ammonia, and its derivatives with the support of the port, the official said. As part of the National Hydrogen Mission, shipping and port operations will play a critical role in driving trade in green energy. Ports are therefore being developed to support the export requirements of green energy. Speaking to PTI, SMP deputy chairman Samrat Rahi said that the scope of the MoU includes forming a joint working group to conduct a feasibility study, identify land for the project, and deliberate on financial models of partnership for the clean energy project here. The availability of green hydrogen as a fuel will help reduce India's dependence on coal for steel making, Tata Steel CEO and MD TV Narendran said on Tuesday. Narendran made the remark at the National Management Convention session of All India Management Association (AIMA) here. "The way steel is made is changing and will continue to change further, as the industry is putting up new plants... Availability of hydrogen as a fuel and reductive is the key to reducing dependence on coal," he said, adding that scrap will replace ore as the main input. In January 2023, the Union Cabinet approved the National Green Hydrogen Mission with an outlay of Rs 19,744 crore with an aim to make India a global hub for manufacturing this clean source of energy. Tata Steel plans to scale up the usage of hydrogen in the steel-making process after the successful completion of the pilot project at its Jamshedpur plant in Jharkhand, Narendran told PTI recently. In April 2023, Tata Steel commenced the firs
Essar Oil UK arm Vertex Hydrogen on Monday announced its plan to switch to a new brand identity, EET Hydrogen as it looks to become a major pillar in the group's energy transition. This change is a natural progression in the development of the company from an early-stage idea into the leading hydrogen production project in the UK, a statement said. "Vertex Hydrogen is announcing that it is changing its brand to EET Hydrogen and that it intends to move from being a subsidiary of Essar Oil UK (EOUK) to a sister company of EOUK and become a standalone pillar of the Essar Energy Transition (EET) portfolio," it stated. The EET Hydrogen will provide a platform for growth with an ambition to deliver around 4GW of low-carbon hydrogen by 2030, around 40 per cent of the UK Government's national target. This hydrogen will enable businesses to switch from fossil fuels to low-carbon energy, securing and growing vital industries and jobs and unlocking billions of pounds of investment. Essar gro
India's top oil firm IOC on Monday unveiled the nation's first green hydrogen-powered bus that emits just water as it takes the lead in bringing out unrivaled tools to replace fossil fuels. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will produce close to 75 kg of hydrogen by splitting water using electricity from renewable sources. This hydrogen will be used to power two buses which will ply across the national capital region for trial runs. Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, flagging off the buses, said hydrogen will be India's transition fuel for moving away from fossil fuels. IOC's R&D Centre at Faridabad is producing green hydrogen for the pilot run. Four cylinders with a capacity of 30 kg can run the buses for 350 km. It takes 10-12 minutes for the four tanks to fill. Hydrogen when burnt emits only water vapour as a by-product. With three times the energy density and the absence of harmful emissions, hydrogen shines as a cleaner, more efficient choice to meet the energy requirement. As much
