Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday said that India would continue buying crude oil from Russia if it is available at a discount emphasising that the government is "committed" to buying the most economically-priced crude oil. "We used to buy less than 0.2 per cent from Russia in February 2022. Now, we are buying 30 per cent. If it's available at good discounts, we will buy it. If it (crude oil) is available elsewhere (at a discounted price), we will buy (from that market)," Puri, who is Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, said during a media interaction here. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "commitment is to make energy available round the clock in the most affordable manner, along with the transition to green energy", the minister said. India targeting Russia to boost banana exports to $1 bn: APEDA chairman

After successfully exporting trial shipments of fresh bananas to countries like the Netherlands through sea route, India is now targeting to increase exports of the fruit to Russia, an official said on Monday. India has set a target of USD 1 billion banana exports in the coming years. At present, exports of most of the fruits, including banana, from India are happening by air route because of lower volumes and different ripening periods. To increase vo?lumes, India is developing sea protocols for fresh fruits and vegetables like bananas, mangoes, pomegranates, and jackfruit to promote their exports through ocean routes. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), along with other stakeholders, has developed these protocols for bananas. APEDA is an arm of the commerce ministry. "We are targeting Russia to increase banana exports. We are going to participate in buyer-seller meets in Russia," APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev said. He said India expor

India's import of Russian oil drops in Nov to lowest level since June 2022

India's import of Russian crude oil dropped in November to its lowest level since June 2022 but the Kremlin continues to be the biggest source of oil for India, according to a monthly tracker report of a European think tank. India became the second biggest buyer of Russian crude oil since Moscow invaded Ukraine in February 2022, with purchases rising from less than one per cent of the total oil imported to almost 40 per cent of the country's total oil purchases. The rise was primarily because the Russian crude oil was available at a discount to other internationally traded oil due to the price cap and the European nations shunning purchases from Moscow. "India's imports of Russian crude oil dropped by a massive 55 per cent in November - the lowest figure since June 2022," the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) said its latest report. Russia remained India's top oil supplier, followed by Iraq and Saudi Arabia. "China has bought 47 per cent of Russia's crude exports,

EU gives inputs to India on cos supplying items to Russia despite sanctions

The European Union has provided India with inputs on the alleged involvement of certain Indian entities in supplying "high priority" goods with possible military application to Russia in violation of Western sanctions, people familiar with the development said. EU Sanctions Envoy David O Sullivan said he visited India in October to discuss with Indian authorities "systemic solutions" to stop the "illicit flow" of the common high priority items to Russia. There was no immediate comment from the Indian side on the matter. India has been maintaining that as a matter of policy, it only recognises UN sanctions. "I travelled to India in October 2024 for the second time to discuss with Indian authorities systemic solutions to stop the illicit flow of common high priority items to Russia," Sullivan said in response to a query. It is learnt that he provided certain details to the Indian authorities about the Indian firms allegedly supplying products to Russia circumventing the sanctions ...
