Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh appointed as next chief of Indian Air Force

Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, who has more than 5,000 hours of flying experience, will be the next chief of the Indian Air Force, succeeding Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari. Singh, currently serving as the Vice Chief of Air Staff, will take charge of the force on the afternoon of September 30, the defence ministry said. "The government has appointed Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, PVSM, AVSM, presently serving as Vice Chief of the Air Staff, as the next Chief of the Air Staff, in the rank of Air Chief Marshal, with effect from the afternoon of September 30," it said. Air Chief Marshal Chaudhari will retire from service on September 30. Born on October 27, 1964, Air Marshal Singh was commissioned into the fighter pilot stream of the Indian Air Force in December 1984. During his long and distinguished service spanning nearly 40 years, he has served in a variety of command, staff, instructional and foreign appointments. FIR against Wing Commander for alleged rape after junior's complaint

An FIR has been registered against a Wing Commander following complaints of rape by a woman flying officer, officials said here on Tuesday. Both the IAF officers are currently stationed in Srinagar. After the complaint, the FIR under "relevant sections of the law" was filed at Budgam police station in central Kashmir on Saturday, a senior police officer said. The IAF said it is cooperating with the police. "We are aware of the case. The Air Force Station in Srinagar was approached by the local Budgam police station on the subject. We are fully cooperating towards this case," a senior IAF official said.

IAF fighter jet crashes in Rajasthan's Barmer, pilot safe: Police

A fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in Barmer district of Rajasthan on Monday night, police said. According to initial information, the pilot is safe, Superintendent of Police Narendra Meena said. "The plane crashed tonight in Barmer. The incident happened away from a populated area," the SP told PTI. He said no loss of life has been reported so far. The SP said that fire tenders have not been able to reach the crash site due to difficult terrain.

Tejinder Singh takes charge as Deputy Chief of Air Staff at Vayu Bhawan

Air Marshal Tejinder Singh on Sunday took over as Deputy Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force, the Defence Ministry said. After taking charge at the Air Headquarters (Vayu Bhawan), the Air Marshal paid homage to the bravehearts, who made the supreme sacrifice, by laying wreath at the National War Memorial here. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Air Marshal Singh was commissioned in the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on June 13, 1987. He is a Category 'A' Qualified Flying Instructor with over 4,500 hours of flying and an alumnus of the Defence Service Staff College and National Defence College, the ministry said in a statement. He has commanded a fighter squadron, a radar station, a premier fighter base and was the Air Officer Commanding, Jammu and Kashmir. IAF plane departs for India with bodies of 25 pilgrims killed in Nepal

A special Indian Air Force plane flight with bodies of 25 Indian pilgrims killed in a tragic bus accident in Nepal left for Jalgaon in Maharashtra while the bodies of two deceased would be reaching Maharajgunj in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday evening. At least 27 Indian pilgrims, all from Maharashtra, who were in Nepal for a 10-day tour, were killed and 16 others injured after their bus veered off the highway and fell into the fast-flowing Marsyangdi river at Abu Khaireni in Tanahun district in central Nepal on Friday. The deceased and the injured were part of a group of 104 pilgrims on visit to Nepal in three buses. IAF's Chinook, MI17 helicopters aid rescue operations in Uttarakhand

The IAF's Chinook and MI17 helicopters on Friday joined the rescue operations in Uttarakhand to evacuate over 500 pilgrims stranded on the rain-ravaged trek route to Kedarnath, with 10 of them being airlifted in the first round. The route suffered extensive damage as a result of a cloudburst in Junglechatti near Lincholi on Wednesday night. Ten pilgrims were airlifted by MI17 helicopter on Friday morning and dropped at Gauchar airstrip, officials here said. Two helpline numbers -- 7579257572 and 01364-233387 -- and one emergency number 112 have also been issued by the district administration to help people get information about their stranded kin among the pilgrims, they said. The pilgrims had got stranded beyond Bhimbali along Gaurikund-Kedarnath trek route when a 20-25 metre stretch of the road was washed out by the violent currents of the Mandakini on Wednesday night.
