Registration of properties in the Mumbai municipal area rose 11 per cent in April to 11,628 units mainly on strong housing demand, according to Knight Frank. In April 2023, the registration of properties in Mumbai stood at 10,514 units. In March 2024, the registration of properties stood at 14,145 units. According to Knight Frank, the registration of properties stood at 11,628 units last month. "The enduring confidence of homebuyers in the Mumbai market has maintained a positive outlook. Asserting its right to regulate industrial alcohol, the Centre told the Supreme Court on Thursday that legislative power to levy excise duty on alcohol not fit for human consumption but meant for industrial use lies exclusively with Parliament. Arguing before a nine-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, Attorney General R Venkataramani submitted that a "conscious decision" was taken to treat alcoholic liquors fit for human consumption and alcoholic liquors not fit for human consumption separately, with the former falling within the domain of provincial legislatures and the latter within the ambit of the federal legislature. The Reserve Bank on Thursday issued an omnibus framework for recognising Self-Regulatory Organisations (SROs) for its regulated entities, under which SROs would be required to establish minimum benchmarks for their members. The RBI said SROs enhance the effectiveness of regulations by drawing upon the technical expertise of practitioners and also aid in framing/ fine-tuning regulatory policies by providing inputs on technical and practical aspects. With the growth of regulated entities (REs) in terms of number as well as scale of operations, increase in adoption of innovative technologies and enhanced customer outreach, the RBI had felt the need to develop better industry standards for self-regulation. The government on Thursday approved a Rs 10,037-crore new industrial development scheme, UNNATI, for northeast states. The Union Cabinet in a meeting approved the Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialization Scheme, 2024, here, an official release said . The central sector scheme has been announced for the development of industries and employment generation in the states of North East Region. The scheme's main objective is to generate gainful employment, which will lead to the area's overall socio-economic development. The scheme will create productive economic activity in the manufacturing and service sectors. Under the scheme, incentives would be provided to investors for setting up new units or undertaking significant expansion of the existing units. The scheme will be effective from the date of notification and up to March 31, 2034, along with eight years of committed liabilities.

India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) Chairman Pankaj Mohindroo said that the next phase of mobile manufacturing growth has to come from exports as the production for the local market is close to saturation. He said India will need to enhance competitiveness in mobile manufacturing at the global level by matching the tariffs or reducing the cost of production with respect to countries like China and Vietnam, where import duty on most of the mobile components is nil or in a lower tax bracket.
