Wrestlers allowed to protest at any place in Delhi other than Jantar Mantar

A day after the Delhi Police cleared the sit-in site of the protesting wrestlers, the security force on Monday said they will be allowed to demonstrate at a suitable place in the city other than Jantar Mantar. "The demonstration by the wrestlers was going on smoothly at the notified place of Jantar Mantar. On Sunday, the protestors flouted the law, ignoring our repeated requests. Hence, we cleared the site and ended the dharna," Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) tweeted in Hindi. Adequate security arrangements in place in view of farmers' meet: Police

In view of a farmers' meeting in support of protesting wrestlers on Sunday, the Delhi Police has made adequate security arrangements at the protest site at Jantar Mantar and on the national capital's borders, an officer said. According to police, vehicles entering Delhi will be checked and pickets will be increased in the border areas. A senior police officer said that adequate security arrangements will be made in and around Jantar Mantar and added multi-layer barricades have already been placed at the protest site. The whole area will be covered by CCTV cameras to monitor the situation round the clock. Another officer said that pickets will be placed in Delhi's border areas as well and checking will be intensified. If needed, additional security personnel will be deployed. Patrolling will also be increased on Delhi's borders. Farmers breaks through barricades to join wrestlers' protest in Delhi

Several farmers broke through police barricades on Monday to join the wrestlers' protest against Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh here even as Delhi Police denied any untoward incident at the site. Purported videos showed farmers climbing the barricades and even dragging and pushing some of them away in a bid to enter the protest venue. Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Pranav Tayal said the incident occurred when some farmers were "in a hurry" to reach the dharna site. Grapplers threaten to return awards; blame game erupts after scuffle

A blame game erupted between the Delhi Police and protesting wrestlers on Thursday over the late-night scuffle at Jantar Mantar here which also led to a political slugfest and a threat by the grapplers to return their medals and awards including Padma Shri to the government.
