Karnataka government has approved 69 projects with a total investment of Rs 3500.86 crore during the 152nd meeting of the state-level monitoring committee held here on Saturday. These projects approved under the leadership of Minister for Large, Medium Industries, and Infrastructure Development M B Patil are expected to create employment opportunities for approximately 24,954 people across the state, a statement from the minister's office said. Among the notable approvals are Jyoti CNC Automation Limited, which plans to invest Rs 285 crore on machine tool centre with an employment of 3,394 people, and Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd plans to invest Rs 250 crore in manufacturing of soaps and detergents. Milk prices in Karnataka will increase by Rs 4 per litre starting from April 1, said state Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna on Thursday. The Minister said the price increase comes in response to the pressure from milk federations and farmers. Addressing reporters here, he said, "The decision to hike the prices is by the milk federation, they were asking for Rs 5 hike per litre, the government agreed and decided for Rs 4 hike from April 1. The entire Rs 4 that has been hiked should go to farmers..." The milk price revision comes in the wake of hikes in bus and metro fares, as well as power tariffs. Karnataka power consumers will have to pay an additional 36 paise per unit as a surcharge from April 1, after the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) allowed energy supply companies (ESCOMs) to recover the government's share of pension and gratuity (P&G) contributions from consumers. In view of bird flu cases being detected in three districts of Karnataka, the administration is carrying out mass culling, while ramping up its surveillance across the state, especially in districts bordering Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, officials said on Saturday. Avian influenza (AI), also known as bird flu, is a zoonotic viral disease that primarily affects poultry and may occasionally spillover to mammals, including humans and swine, they said. Cases of bird flu among poultry birds have been reported in Manvi taluk of Raichur, Chikkaballapur taluk of Chikkaballapur and Sandur taluk of Ballari districts, they said.
