MRPL in coastal Karnataka becomes India's largest single location refinery

The Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), a mini-Ratna CPSE PSU refinery based in coastal Karnataka and a subsidiary of ONGC, has become the single largest PSU-refinery (single location) in the country for the year 2022-23, a release from the company said here Wednesday. MRPL achieved this feat by processing 17.14 million metric tonnes of crude oil during the past financial year. This is also the highest-ever throughput processed by any single-location PSU refinery in India's petroleum refining history, the release said. MRPL processes 10 per cent of the total crude oil refined by the PSU petroleum refineries in the country. Set up as a joint venture refinery in 1988 with a 3.69 MMTPA (million metric tonnes per annum) capacity, MRPL later underwent a second and third-phase expansion to raise its capacity to 15 MMTPA. Karnataka govt appoints judicial commission to probe PSI recruitment scam

The Karnataka government has constituted a one-man judicial commission to inquire into the police sub-inspector (PSI) recruitment scam. Retired Karnataka High Court judge B Veerappa will conduct the probe, and the government notification constituting the probe has set a deadline of three months for the inquiry. The Congress had strongly taken on the then BJP government over alleged irregularities and corruption in the recruitment of 545 PSIs. It was one among its major ammunitions against the saffron party during the campaign for the Assembly polls. TN urges govt to ask K'taka to release Cauvery water to save Kuruvai crop

Karnataka has not released Tamil Nadu's due share of Cauvery water and the standing Kuruvai crop can be saved only if the former lets out water immediately, the state government apprised the Centre on Thursday and sought its immediate intervention on the matter. Writing to Union Jal Shakti Minister, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Chief Minister M K Stalin said the short-term Kuruvai is a crucial crop for the farmers of Tamil Nadu's Cauvery delta region. He said the quantum of water received at Billigundulu on the inter-state border, from June 1 to July 17 was 3.78 tmc (thousand million cubic feet) only, as against the prescribed level of 26.32 tmc for this period. K'taka tops direct selling market in south with sales of Rs 1,128 cr: IDSA

Karnataka, with sales of Rs 1,128 crore, has topped the direct selling market in the southern region, according to the annual survey report by the Indian Direct Selling Association (IDSA). Providing self-employment to 78,000 entrepreneurs in Karnataka, including 34,000 women, the direct selling business in the State posted a sales increase of Rs 94 crore in 2021-22, a 9.09 per cent growth over the previous year's figure of Rs 1,034 crore, the self-regulatory body for the direct selling industry in India said. The State had a share of 5.9 per cent of the overall national sales, which stood at over Rs 19,030 crore during the period, the survey noted. During 2021-22, the State also contributed nearly Rs 170 crore to the exchequer by way of taxes, it was stated.
