Minister for pay-cut for absent staff

Perturbed over late arrival and absence of departmental employees, Uttar Pradesh agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi today said that one-day salary of employees found absent will be deducted. "After the formation of the Yogi Adityanath government in UP, our main endeavour was to change the work culture and replace with a healthy work culture. "Prior to this, I had conducted a surprise inspection some months back. I thought that the situation would have improved, as there was a gap. There has been some improvements. But, some persons were found absent today. There details are being analysed and one-day salary of employees found absent will be deducted," he said. ) Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) today hailed the economic survey, which has called for an expeditious elimination of embedded export taxes. Welcoming the suggestion, TEA President Raja M Shanmugham said that the association has been requesting for the elimination of embedded export taxes. The association has also been appealing to the government to enhance the Rebate of State Levies mainly to compensate the embedded tax. The Survey-2018, tabled in the Parliament by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, has said that exports will be biggest source of upside potential for the economy and has also specifically noted that textiles and apparels sector has tremendous potential for growth in exports and employment, particularly, women employment, he said. HC directs TNSTC to pay family pension to driver's widow

The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) to pay family pension to a widow whose husband worked as a driver after retirement from the military, and died in 2012. The woman, Amalorpavam alias Amalorpava Mary, had filed a petition seeking a direction to the TNSTC to grant family pension to her for the services rendered by her husband Gabriel in the corporation. Disposing of the plea recently, Justice T Raja cited various judgements and pension rules, and said a close reading of the rules showed that receiving two kinds of civil pensions was prohibited. However, it also makes it clear that there is no restriction for payment of military pension to an employee, who got civil employment after his retirement from military service, the judge said. 'Gender, education, class affect quality of life in old age'

Raising one's level of education and skills during the working life are key factors in determining the quality of life in retirement and old age, according to new research. A study led by the University of Birmingham involved interviewing around 50 retirees from a range of different professions and educational backgrounds. It was found that pathways to retirement and experiences of retirement differed greatly according to profession, gender, class and education.
