IIT, IIM students get double the salary of other college grads

As employers look for quality talent, engineering graduates from top IITs are fetching 137 per cent higher salary package than an average engineer, while management graduates from top IIMs are getting 121 per cent more than an average MBA graduate, according to a report. In IITs, computer science or information technology graduates are receiving the highest annual package of Rs 6.9 lakh per annum, global online talent measurement solution provider Mettl said in its campus hiring report 2018. The report said candidates proficient in new-age skills like machine learning and data science are found to be hired largely from the top IITs. "New IITs are catching up fast with top NITs in terms of compensation packages offered, especially for CS or IT graduates where new IITs have surpassed top NITs," it said. 'Shahjahanpur farmers yet to get Rs 480 Cr sugarcane dues'

Former Union minister Jitin Prasada here today claimed that payments of nearly Rs 480 crore are yet to be made to sugarcane farmers in Shahjahanpur. Speaking to reporters here, Jitin Prasada said, "Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had given a big industrial project to the people of the region (Shahjahanpur), which is giving employment to thousands of people even today." He claimed that sugar mill owners are yet to pay nearly Rs 480 crore due to sugarcane farmers in Shahjahanpur. Dharmendra Pradhan lays foundation stone for NSTI

In an effort to meet the rising demand for skilled manpower, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has announced to launch the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) in Barang, Bhubaneswar.The launch announcement was made in the presence of the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan.The institute will be set up at a cost of Rs 160 crore. Teachers hold protest in Srinagar, detained by police

Dozens of government employees were today detained here as police foiled their protest march towards the official residence of Governor N N Vohra in support of their demands including implementation of the seventh pay commission recommendations. Hundreds of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers assembled at the Sher-e-Kashmir Park here in the summer capital of the state and started marching towards Raj Bhavan in Gupkar area of the city, a police official said. He said the protesting employees were demanding implementation of the seventh pay commission recommendations and de-linking of their salaries from the Union Ministry of Human Resources and Development funding. A large contingent of police was deployed to stop the march and the protesting teachers were asked to disperse, the official said. Union Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today laid the foundation stone for National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) to be set up at a cost of Rs 160 crore to meet the rising demands for skilled manpower. Sterlite asks staff to join back to clean up plant site

More than one-and-a-half months after its copper smelter plant at Tuticorin was ordered to shut down, Sterlite Copper today said it will not sack any of its permanent staff and has asked employees to join back to help clean up the site. The company, which has continued to pay its employees during the shutdown period, has asked its employees to join back duty to help meet local administration's deadline to evacuate sulphuric acid and other materials from the plant, its chief executive officer P Ramnath said. The Tamil Nadu government in late May ordered permanent closure of a copper smelter of the firm after 13 people protesting to demand its shutdown on environmental concerns were killed. Following the shutdown, most of the 707 permanent employees were relocated to other company units like the one at Silvassa in Tamil Nadu. "We have been paying them. It is the Vedanta policy to retain our employees. We (Vedanta group) have got lots of companies, we can always redeploy them there," he .

Britannia rolls out Rs 170-cr unit in Assam; to hire 1,000 persons

FMCG major Britannia today opened its Rs 170-crore manufacturing plant in Assam and announced plans to hire a total 1,000 people at the unit -- its largest greenfield facility. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today inaugurated the plant at Rampur near Guwahati in presence of Britannia Industries Managing Director Varun Berry. "Women comprise 70 per cent of the factory's workforce and are well represented in all three shifts that the factory operates. The total strength of workers will be around 1,000 people at the time of the factory's full-fledged operations," the company said. Berry informed that this is Britannia's largest greenfield manufacturing facility, which was set up at an investment of Rs 170 crore. "This will cater to the growing demand from North East. Sterlite asks staff to report at office quarters, to discuss

The management of Sterlite Copper plant in Tamil Nadu has invited its employees to discuss the next course of action in the wake of closure of the unit after violent protests in May, company sources said today. Around 900 employees who were staying in Tuticorin district, where the plant is located, had left for their hometowns and other places following the closure of the unit by the state government, they said. The Vedanta group unit was ordered to shut down after the protest by locals against it over safety concerns turned violent on May 22 and 23 leading to the death of 13 people in police firing. "It is an internal communication that has been sent to the employees (by the CEO)... asking them to come to the office quarters," a company official told PTI on condition of anonymity. Pilot hits out at Rajasthan BJP government on skill development

Accusing the BJP government in Rajasthan of misleading the youth of the state in the name of creating job opportunities, the Congress has demanded that the Vasundhara Raje dispensation release a white paper on skill development and employment. "The BJP had in the last Assembly elections promised employment to 15 lakh youths, but it is unfortunate that even 10 per cent of the target could not be achieved," Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot said. He claimed that even though skill development schemes are being publicised across the country, irregularities in several such centre have come to the fore and subsequently those had to be closed. "This shows that skill development is just a slogan so that youths could be misled," Pilot alleged, and demanded that the government release a white paper giving details of how many youths were given employment after they were imparted skill training.

32 persons set free from clutches of trafficker in Jharkhand

Altogether 32 persons, including 17 child labourers were set free from the clutches of an alleged trafficker by the Palamau district police, a senior police officer said today. The labourers were freed on Saturday, the officer said. The prime accused, Rahul Tiwari, is a resident of Samahatu village under the jurisdiction of Dinara police station of Rohtas district in Bihar, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Palamau district, Indrajeet Mahatha, said, adding, Tiwari has been arrested. Acting on a tip-off, a police team carried out a raid at Daltongunj Railway station yesterday evening, and set free 32 persons, including 17 child laborers, he said. Mahatha said that Tiwari had lured the victims by offering more wages and he was planning to sell them in another state, the police officer added. The 17 child laborers, all aged between 10 and 15 years, have been handed over to the District Child Welfare Committee in Palamau, he said.

Ola, Haryana govt sign pact to create 35K job opportunities

Cab hailing platform Ola said today that it has inked a pact with Haryana's Department of Employment to create 35,000 entrepreneurial opportunities in the state. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) is part of the state's Saksham Haryana initiative which was rolled out early last year to empower the youth through various skill development initiatives. An Ola spokesperson said a part of these opportunities would be aimed towards development of the driver-partner ecosystem in the state. "The MoU reflects Ola's commitment to accelerate the state government's efforts of creating two lakh jobs for the youth of the state," Ola said in a statement, adding that the MoU aims to create 35,000 job opportunities. Railways distribute E-notebooks to wards of its employees

The Chakradharpur Division of South Eastern Railway has distributed electronic note books among 47 girls of lower grade employees, a railway official said. The purpose is to empower the girl students of class X1 and X11 to pursue their studies, said Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Chakradharpur Division) Bhaskar said. The gadgets were distributed at a function in Chakradharpur yesterday.
