Women govt employees to get 180 days' paid leave for

The Maharashtra government today decided to provide a total of 180 days' paid leave to women government employees to look after the children in the course of service. They will be able take this leave until their children turn 18. The same leave can be availed of by a male employee too if his wife is dead and if he has children who are under 18. The decision was taken in today's cabinet meeting, said finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar. Among other things, women employees would find this facility helpful when their children are in class 10th or 12th, said an official. Women (or male, as the case may be) employees will be able to demand this leave thrice a year.

Mining firm in Goa seeks govt nod to lay off 350 permanent employees

A Goa-based mining company, Chowgule and Company Private Ltd, has sought permission from the Ministry of Labour and Employment to lay off 347 permanent employees in the state. "Chowgule and Company Private Ltd has filed an application under the section 25 N of Industrial and Disputes Act 1947 in the Ministry of Labour and Employment for retrenchment of 347 permanent employees. It is among the top three mining companies in the state," the president of Goa Mining People's Front (GMPF), an umbrella organisation of the people dependent on mining, Puti Goankar, told PTI after the first hearing of the matter at the ministry here. This is for the first time that a mining company in Goa has filed an application seeking permission from the government for laying off of permanent employees in the state where mining operations are stalled following a Supreme Court order. My departments gave employment to 1 crore youths: Gadkari

Union minister Nitin Gadkari asserted today that the departments under him have provided employment to one crore youths since the NDA government came to power in May 2014. Though the opposition parties are trying to attack the central government on the issue of employment generation, Gadkari said, the claims made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that his government has created lakhs of jobs are "true". Kin of Hyderabad men trafficked to Malaysia seek Sushma's help

The family members of two men who were trafficked to Malaysia have sought help from External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.The two men, identified as Mohammed Bilal and Mohammed Ghouse, were allegedly trafficked to Malaysia by the same agent on the pretext of employment opportunities.The mothers of Bilal and Ghouse alleged that the agent took Rs 1 lakh each from them and seized their passports after they reached Malaysia.Speaking to ANI, Bilal's mother, Rashadha Begum, said that her son was approached by an agent, namely Md. Yousuf, who promised him a good job and salary in Malaysia. As the Goods and Services Tax (GST) roll-out completed one year today, handloom workers from Gorakhpur on Sunday shared problems they have been facing since the implementation of the indirect tax.Calling the GST a 'failure', the workers said that the situation had worsened to such an extent that many people in the handloom industry lost their jobs and several were forced to sell their looms and open tea shops and other small distances."I was working in handloom, after GST our machines sold. We became jobless. Hry govt preparing ground for privatization of education system: Dushyant Chautala

The INLD's Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala alleged today the BJP government in Haryana was preparing the ground for privatization of education in the state. "As part of this process, no recruitment in the education department will be made through the constitutional bodies that exist and it will be done by private agencies instead," he alleged. Chautala claimed that as a first step, the contract for hiring employees for C and D categories had already been given to the private sector. "Steps have already been taken by a new company to recruit candidates against the vacant posts. The companies selected for the job will be handed over a contract for seven years and will get a commission of 2.01 per cent, while the teachers will be paid a lump sum. Such companies will be recruiting teachers for primary schools of the state," he further claimed. Ambulance employees' strike continues as company starts fresh hiring

The strike by ambulance employees in Himachal Pradesh entered its seventh day today as the protestors continued their sit-in near the secretariat today. Meanwhile, a day after terminating 63 of the striking employees, GVK EMRI (Emergency Management and Research Institute) has started process of fresh hiring. "We are not deterred by the termination of our 63 colleagues. We will continue our strike till our demand of running 108 ambulances by National Health Mission (NHM) on Haryana pattern is met after cancelling of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GVK EMRI," said the ambulance employees' union state head Pooran Chand. Air India doubles gratuity ceiling amount of employees

Cash-strapped national carrier Air India has doubled the gratuity ceiling amount of its employees from Rs.10 lakhs to Rs. 20 lakhs.An Air India letter dated on June 26, said,"It has been decided to implement the enhancement of gratuity payable to employees under Payment of Gratuity Amendment Act 2018, revising the existing ceiling limit from Rupees 10 lakhs to 20 lakhs effective 29th March 2018 for employees ceasing to be in the service of the company as approved by the board of Air India Limited in its 86th meeting held on 21st May 2018."Around 6500 employees of the airline stand to benefit from this new announcement.Earlier, if someone had the gratuity beyond Rs.10 lakhs, he or she would only get Rs.10 lakh. The new rules of the Government of India now ensure an employee of a maximum of Rs. 20 lakhs if he or she has more than Rs. 10 lakhs.

GVK EMRI terminates services of 63 striking ambulance staff in HP

The GVK EMRI (Emergency Management and Research Institute), which runs the 108 and 102 ambulance services in Himachal Pradesh has terminated the services of 63 striking employees. However, despite the strict move yesterday, the ambulance union continued with its strike demanding cancelation of the MoU inked between the state government and GVK EMRI for running the ambulance service and bringing the service under the purview of National Health Mission (NHM). GVK EMRI employees have been on strike since last Monday. Ambulance drivers and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who provide pre-hospital care to patients are accusing the organisation of not paying them enough for the long hours they keep. They have demanded that ambulance workers be covered under a government policy, as in Haryana, to ensure they work only for eight hours. A day after the Delhi High Court restrained DMRC staff from going on strike over a number of demands, including pay-scale revision, the transporter's employees body today said the members will resort to symbolic protest by wearing black arm bands. A section of the DMRC Staff Council had threatened to go on strike from midnight yesterday, after talks between its representatives and the Delhi Metro authorities failed. "We have postponed our plan to go on strike in light of the court order. HC notice to TN govt on percentage of apprentices in mills

The Madras High Court has issued notice to the state government on a PIL seeking a direction to bring into force the Industrial employment (standing orders), Tamil Nadu Amendment Act, 2008 and to frame rules for the purpose of reduction of employment of apprentices and fixation of percentage of apprentices. When the PIL filed by advocate T K Saravanan came up, a division bench of Justice K K Sasidharan and Justice R Subramanian, issued notice to government pleader TN Rajagopalan, who sought time to get instructions, and posted the matter to July 16. The petitioner, referring to women appointed in various textile mills as apprentices, submitted that, "on expiry of three years, the adolescent women apprentices, who are paid meagre wages as stipend under schemes like 'Sumangali Scheme' 'Thirumana Udavi Thittam', are not retained in service and the mill owners would engage another set of apprentices." Employee unions today protested the decision of the board of Bank of Maharashtra to divest Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ravindra Marathe and Executive Director R K Gupta of their powers. Not calling off strike, just deferring it: Delhi Metro staff

The Secretary of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's (DMRC) Staff Council, Ravi Bhardwaj on Friday stated that the strike called by the DMRC non-executive employees had only been deferred and not called off following the Delhi High Court ruling.Speaking to ANI, Bhardwaj said that they will continue protesting if their demands were not met."We respect High Court's order and will defer the strike but our protest will continue until our demands are met. We'll keep providing services by sporting black bands as a mark of protest. If our demands are not heard, protests will go stronger," said Bhardwaj."The executive officers of the DMRC have kept their pay scale in accordance with the pay scale in Schedule A PSUs (Public Sector Undertakings) parallel to the pay scale of the officers of NTPC, BHEL, etc. However, the non-executive employees do not get their pay as much as the other schedule A PSUs.
