Social Activist Swami Agnivesh today called for making Delhi a model state by strictly implementing a law on minimum wages for labourers in the unorganised sector. Agnivesh lauded the AAP government for coming out with the law at a meeting held at Bandhua Mukti Morcha's office where the issue of non-payment of minimum wages was discussed. The Morcha, chaired by Agnivesh, works for the registration of unorganised sector labour in Delhi and ensuring payment of minimum wages to them. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today claimed that the government and the protesting municipal workers reached a consensus on some of their demands. Khattar said he was hopeful that the agitators would now call off their strike. "A consensus has already been reached between the government and the protesters on some demands. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat today inaugurated the state's first City Gas Distribution (CGD) network at Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district. It is the country's eighth City Gas Distribution (CGD) system. The 500 kilometer long pipeline will be completed by 2020 and provide employment to 2,000 people. A total of ten CNG stations, one each in Jaspur, Bazpur, Khatima and Kiccha, two in Kashipur and three in Rudrapur have been identified for this pipeline. The Rs 250 crore project will cover Kashipur to Rudrapur /Pantnagar in Uttarakhand. Atal Pension Yojana (APY), a guaranteed Pension Scheme for citizens of India announced by the Government of India, is focused on the unorganised sector workers which constitute more than 85% of workforce. Under the APY, the guaranteed minimum pension of Rs. 1,000/- or 2,000/- or 3,000/- or 4,000/ or 5,000/- per month will be given at the age of 60 years depending on the contributions by the subscribers. The Spouse of the Subscriber is also eligible for pension and the nominee would be receiving the accumulated pension wealth.

Municipal employees in Haryana today decided to extend their ongoing strike till May 17 over various demands including, regularisation of nearly 20,000 contractual staff and equal pay for equal work. The decision to extend the strike was taken after a meeting between the workers' representatives and the state government officials. Over 67 per cent of women respondents are planning to ask for a pay rise this appraisal cycle as they are not happy with their current level of remuneration, according to a survey. "About 93 per cent of the respondents possibly or definitely plan to ask for a pay rise in the coming appraisal cycle for 2018, with women more likely to ask for a rise than men. Around 67 per cent of all women respondents confirmed that they would be asking for a pay rise in comparison to 64 per cent of men," according to global job site Indeed. It highlights the fact that more women than men are dissatisfied with their current pay, it added.
