The government has taken various steps to eliminate discrimination in labour markets, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav has said. The minister made the remarks in a panel discussion at the World of Work Summit of ILO on 'Promoting Social Justice' in Geneva on Wednesday, the Ministry of Labour & Employment said in a statement. "The Minister highlighted government initiatives to eliminate discrimination in labour markets promoting social justice. He highlighted the steps the government has taken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to eliminate discrimination in labour markets," it said. Yadav said India is also making efforts to extend the benefits of social security to unorganised workers. The government's e-Shram portal is a step towards extending social security to all. The government is also skilling, upskilling and reskilling workers for the same, he added.

UIDAI, labour ministry top performers in grievance redressal index

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and the Ministry of Labour and Employment are the top performers in the grievance redressal index, an official statement issued said on Tuesday. The index is part of the Centralised Public Grievance Redressal and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) monthly report for April 2023 released by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG). The report provides a detailed analysis of the types and categories of public grievances and the nature of disposal. "Disposal of grievances in the central secretariat has been on an upward trend with the pendency on its downward trend," the statement said. The progress for April 2023 indicates 1,06,847 grievances redressed by central ministries and departments with an average disposal time of 17 days/grievance and a pendency level of 67,932 cases in the central secretariat, it said. Labour minister launches features on eShram portal for unorganised workers

Union labour minister Bhupender Yadav on Monday launched new features on eShram portal including the one which will help in capturing family details of migrant workers for providing the benefit of child education and women centric schemes. Registered workers can now connect with employment opportunities, skilling, apprenticeship, pension scheme, digital skilling and states' schemes through eShram portal, a labour ministry statement said. National Career Service portal lists record 3.5 mn vacancies in 2022-23

As many as 35.7 lakh vacancies were registered on National Career Service (NCS) in 2022-23, which is a record so far, the labour ministry said on Tuesday. The Ministry of Labour and Employment is implementing the National Career Service (NCS) Project as a Mission Mode Project for the transformation of the National Employment Service to provide a variety of employment-related services like job matching, career counselling, vocational guidance, information on skill development courses, internships etc. The services under NCS are available online, which was dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister in 2015. NCS portal has registered the highest vacancies during 2022-23 since its launch in July 2015, a labour ministry statement said. Around 35.7 lakh vacancies have been reported by employers on NCS during 2022-23 compared to around 13 lakh vacancies in 2021-22. The reporting of vacancies on NCS in 2022-23 has shown an increase of 175 per cent over 2021-22. Further, 2022-23 also .

Delhi Labour Minister Raaj Kumar Anand on Monday said Rozgar Mela will be organised across the national capital to create large-scale job opportunities for labourers. He chaired a high-level meeting with the officials of the Labour Department at the Delhi Secretariat. The meeting was focused on reviewing the smooth implementation of labour welfare schemes run by the Delhi Government. Labour Minister launches e-passbook facility for EPFO subscribers

Union Labour and Employment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Tuesday launched an e-passbook facility for the EPFO subscribers. Now, members will be able to view more details of their accounts in graphical representations, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) said in a statement. According to official data, EPFO added 14.86 lakh subscribers in January 2023. Yadav, also the Chairman of Central Board of Trustees (CBT) of EPFO, inaugurated creche facilities in 63 regional offices of EPFO where there are 100 or more employees. Besides, the minister laid the foundation stone of the building of regional office at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. Claims worth Rs 174 cr processed during ESIC Special Services Fortnight

Around 84,000 claims amounting to Rs 174 crore were processed during the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Special Services Fortnight from February 24 to March 10. The special services fortnight was launched by Union Minister for Labour & Employment Bhupender Yadav on February 24 to mark 71 years of services to insured workers and their dependents. It culminated on March 10, a labour ministry statement said on Friday. During the 15 days, the focus was on ease of services to insured persons and their dependents through activities pertaining to clearance of pending bills/claims, redressal of grievances, emphasis on millet diets and yoga, and health check-up camps in industrial clusters. During the fortnight, around 84,000 claims amounting to Rs 174 crore were processed, the statement said. ABRY benefitted over 60 lakh beneficiaries in pandemic: Labour minister

The Aatmanirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana (ABRY) meant for creating employment during the pandemic benefitted 60.13 lakh beneficiaries, Parliament was informed on Monday. The ABRY was launched on October 1, 2020, to incentivise employers to create new employment and restore employment lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. "The terminal date for registration of beneficiaries was March 31, 2022. As on November 28, 2022, benefits have been provided to 60.13 lakh beneficiaries," Minister of State for Labour & Employment Rameshwar Teli said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. Amid reports of mass layoffs by several firms, including in the IT sector, Labour and Employment Minister Bhupender Yadav on Thursday said any retrenchment and layoffs are deemed to be illegal if not carried out as per the provisions of the Industrial Disputes Act. The minister was replying in the Rajya Sabha to a question about whether the government has taken cognizance of the mass layoffs in various multi-national and Indian companies in the IT, social media, Edu Tech firms and related sectors.
