A Malaysian court ruled today the murder trial of two women accused of assassinating the half-brother of North Korea's leader can proceed -- in a blow to their families who insist the pair were tricked into carrying out the dramatic hit. After hearing prosecutors' case, Judge Azmi Ariffin said there was sufficient evidence to support a murder charge against Siti Aisyah from Indonesia and Doan Thi Huong from Vietnam, accused of murdering Kim Jong Nam with nerve agent VX at Kuala Lumpur airport. "I must therefore call upon them to enter their defence on their respective charges," the judge said in his ruling to the Shah Alam High Court, outside Kuala Lumpur. Delhi Police's Special Cell, which took over the probe in the alleged attack on JNU student leader Umar Khalid, today recreated the scene of crime outside the Constitution Club to understand the sequence of events, said a senior police officer. He said police spoke to Khalid, his friends and the shopkeepers near the scene of crime. Khalid was shot at on Monday when he was on his way to take part in an event at the Constitution Club after having tea at a shop outside the venue. He, however, escaped unhurt. The rural police in Maharashtra's Thane district today claimed to have arrested seven Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in the country. The accused, who were staying in Bhayander area of the district, had no valid documents for entering the country, police said. Offences under the Passport Act were registered against them at Mira Road police station. The accused were identified as Rabul Salim Shaikh, Solina Munna Khan, Ibrahim Farookh Khan, Ashia Ibrahim Khan, Reza Siraz Shaikh, Sahana Dulal Shaikh and Bilal Kamrul Shaikh. The owner of the house where they were living was also arrested for allegedly giving shelter to illegal migrants and not informing local police about tenants, which is mandatory, police said. The arrested Bangladeshi nationals did jobs such as driver or domestic help, police added.
A BJP leader here has been arrested for alleged sexual exploitation of the secretary of an NGO ran by him, police said today. Baban Yadav was arrested late yesterday following an FIR lodged by the secretary of Buddha Society Seva Foundation, an NGO which he ran, under sections relating to assault and rape, Station House Officer of Digha police station S N Singh told PTI-Bhasha. He said Yadav has been sent to jail. Yadav, a small-time Bhojpuri movie actor, had joined the BJP recently. A burglary of Rs 18 lakh has been reported from the corporate office of a private builder's group here, police said today. The money was stolen from the firm's office in Sector 63 on Monday night. The matter came to light yesterday after which a complaint was made at the Noida Phase 3 police station, they said. According to a police official, four of the security guards employed by the firm have been named in the first information report (FIR). "It appears that an insider had helped in the theft because the lock at the gate of the office was found open and not broken," he said. "The culprits took away the safety vault which had the cash from one of the rooms in the corporate office of the builder's group, the official added. The police said they have lodged a case of burglary and were probing the matter. "Four persons have been named in the FIR. We are questioning people and also scrutinising the CCTV footage for any leads," the policeman said. There was no response from the group.
The CBI has taken over investigation into the killing of a resident doctor at the prestigious St Stephen's Hospital here last year allegedly by his colleague who is absconding ever since, the officials said today. The Delhi High Court had handed over the matter to the CBI last month after the Delhi Police had failed to nab the alleged culprit who was a student at the hospital. Shashwat Pandey, a resident student of Radio Diagnosis department, was found dead with his throat slit at a retiring room in the hospital on August 25 last year. Pandey, a resident of Allahabad, was allegedly killed by Suyash Gupta, his batchmate at the hospital. Multiple knife wounds were found on the body of Pandey during the autopsy, the official said. Gupta and Pandey were on good terms and used to live together. But the relationship soured between them when Pandey became friends with a nurse and did not give much time to Gupta. Gujarat Congress leader Paresh Dhanani today said he would sit on a three-day fast here from tomorrow to highlight his party's demand for a judicial probe into the alleged groundnut scam in the state. A case was today registered against the administrator of a private school here in connection with the putting up of a banner which allegedly insulted the national flag, police said. The case was registered under the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act on a complaint from a police constable, they said. Pakistani authorities today arrested a close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari outside the Supreme Court in connection with fake bank accounts that were used for alleged money laundering, according to a media report. Anwar Majeed, owner of Omni Group, and his son Abdul Ghani Majeed were arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) after they appeared before the apex court in connection with the case, The News reported. An apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar heard the case. Majeed's lawyer sought pre-arrest bail for his client. Two men were detained for allegedly misbehaving with Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sona Ram Choudhary in Rajasthan's Barmer district today, police said. An altercation occurred when the MP was returning to Barmer town in his vehicle, while the accused were in a separate vehicle, a police officer said. Acting on an information by the police control room, the vehicle was intercepted in Meethada area and the duo were taken to the police station, the officer said. Gold bars worth over Rs 47 lakh were recovered today from under a seat of an Air India (AI) flight at the city international airport, a Customs official said. Acting on a tip-off, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Customs searched the flight after it arrived from Abu Dhabi this morning, the official said. "During their search, 15 gold bars weighing 1.74 kg, were found concealed in a hollow pipe and placed under a seat," he said. The total value of the seized gold is around Rs 47,69,330, the official said. "The unclaimed gold bars were seized under reasonable belief that they were smuggled into India without paying the Customs duty and in contravention of the provisions of the Customs Act he said, adding that further investigation was on.
Taking strong note of the Deoria shelter home abuse case, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today shunted out superintendent of police Rohan P Kanay and initiated departmental action against him. "SP Deoria, Rohan (P Kanay) has been removed from his post and attached to the DGP office and departmental action has been initiated against him. Besides him, Rakesh Shankar, who was SP Deoria (between Sep 2017-Mar 2018) and currently posted as DIG Basti, has also been removed from his post and attached to the DGP office. Three people were arrested today for allegedly killing an 18-year-old man and dumping his body in river Hindon here, the police said. Arun, Sunil and Gaurav -- all in early 20s -- were caught while doing drugs near Chhajarsi colony under Noida Phase 3 police station limits, they said. The victim, Akash, a resident of Chotpur colony, was reported missing on August 11, the day he had a spat with the accused near the river, a police officer said. "Akash, along with his friends, was engaged in some game as part of which they were throwing pebbles in the river. The three accused were on the other side of the river," he said. "Arun apparently got hit by a pebble and the three walked over to the other side and confronted Akash and his friends," he said, adding that the two sides had an argument and the matter came to an end. At least four children and a woman were injured on Wednesday after a bomb exploded in a house in Nalanda district of the state.The explosion occurred in a house that remained locked for many years in Rahui area. On Wednesday, it was opened for cleaning. The blast occurred while cleaning the house, injuring a woman and four children. All of them were admitted to a hospital at district headquarter Bihar Sharif.Law enforcement officials reached the spot. While investigating the case, three more live bombs were recovered from the house.
