MoS Railways denies rape allegation

Minister of State (MoS) for Railways Rajen Gohain on Saturday denied the rape charges against him and termed it as a conspiracy to disrupt his political career in the light of upcoming general elections."Every time I am about to contest elections, such conspiracies are plotted against me. Hollywood stars Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck's divorce is in under threat of being dismissed due to lack of paperwork. Los Angeles County Superior Court advised the couple that their divorce case may be delayed because they have yet to file and enter the final judgment, a document obtained by The Blast revealed. "If you fail to take the appropriate steps in your case, the court may dismiss your case for delay in prosecution," the document states. If both these actions are not completed, the court may dismiss the case. The court did not state a deadline. To check corruption, cops in Una barred from carrying over Rs 200

In a bid to curb corruption, the police chief of Himachal Pradesh's Una district has issued a unique diktat barring on duty cops manning check-points to keep more than Rs 200 with them. Una superintendent of police Diwakar Sharma said the decision was taken after he received complaints alleging that police personnel at check-points demanded bribes from pilgrims entering the hill-state. "Continuous complaints of (policemen) seeking bribes, especially from pilgrims coming from neighbouring Punjab to pay their obeisance at the temples located in Himachal Pradesh, has forced me to take this decision," the SP told PTI. Sharma said the district was the entry point for thousands of pilgrims coming from Punjab to pray at the state's various holy shrines including Chintpurni, Jawalji and Kangra. Three girls freed from clutches of human traffickers

Four members of a gang allegedly involved in human trafficking were arrested and three girls freed from their clutches, the police said today. Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house of Suresh Kumar, and freed the three girls, while four persons were arrested, Superintendent of Police (rural) Shubhasg Chandra Shakya said. "Among the three girls, two are minors and had left their homes as they were upset over some issues. One of the girls is from Barabanki, one from Lakhimpur Kheri and another is from Sonbhadra. "One of them was already 'sold' to a person in Jahanabad, while the gang members were preparing themselves to sell the remaining girls," he said. The arrested persons have been identified as Suresh Kumar, Gajendra Kumar, Virendra and a woman member Dharmshila. The three girls have been sent for medical examination.

13-yr-old student of govt residential school raped in UP

A 13-year-old girl of a state-run residential school in Uttar Pradesh was allegedly raped by a youth, who has been arrested, police said today. The girl, a student of a Kasturba Gandhi Awasiya Balika Vidyalaya here, was raped on Thursday, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sabharaj Singh said. The youth was arrested late last night after a complaint was lodged by the girl's parents, he said, adding that the matter is being investigated. "On Thursday, the 13-year- old girl of the Kasturba Gandhi Awasiya Balika Vidyalaya complained of stomach pain and expressed her desire to go home with a another girl's mother, who had come to the school to see her daughter. "The warden allowed the girl to go to her village along with the woman. On the way, the woman allegedly handed over the girl to her relative Devendra. Trader killed in Azamgarh

A sweetmeat trader was murdered by unidentified assailants at his shop here, triggering protests by local traders, the police said today. Jitendra alias Naatte (36) was sitting in his sweet shop when three men arrived at his shop. After consuming tea, they indiscriminately fired at him and left him injured. Jitendra was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead. Angered over the incident, local traders blocked the road, and lifted the blockade only after police arrived at the spot and assured them that action will be initiated. Member of Dilpreet-Rinda gang nabbed in Rupnagar

Punjab Police today arrested a member of the Dilpreet-Rinda gang allegedly involved in the attack on Punjabi singer Parmish Verma. This is Punjab Police's second arrest in about a month since Dilpreet, who had allegedly threatened the singer on Facebook, was nabbed in Chandigarh. UP man held for bid to kidnap 6-year-old girl in Goa

A man from Uttar Pradesh was arrested for allegedly trying to kidnap a six-year-old girl in Vasco town, around 40 kms from here today, police said. The accused, identified as Uttam Kumar Bhind, tried to snatch the minor when she was standing next to her father in a queue outside a bank ATM, Vasco police inspector Nolasco Raposo said. People present on the spot immediately caught the man, who is in his late 40s, and thrashed him, he added. "The mob informed the police about the incident and Bhind was taken into custody," Raposo said. The accused has been arrested under section 8 of the Goa Children's Act and other relevant sections of the IPC, the inspector said adding that further investigation into the case is on.

Plane crashes after unauthorised take off from Seattle airport

An Alaska Airlines plane has crashed in Puget Sound after it took off without authorisation from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport here on Friday night, officials said.An airline employee, who hijacked the jet from the airport, crashed it shortly after take-off, the airport tweeted. CBI, CFSL team arrives at Muzaffarpur shelter home for investigation

A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Central Forensic Science Laboratory has reached the Muzaffarpur shelter home to investigate the alleged sexual abuse case.The team will also be visiting the residence of prime accused Brajesh Thakur, as well as the newspaper office run by him.CBI has previously frozen the bank accounts of Brajesh Thakur, and is also investigating his properties and bank balance. Thakur, however, has denied all charges and claimed that he was being falsely implicated for planning to join the Congress.The shelter home was sealed after police raided the vicinity and rescued 44 inmates on July 23. Eleven employees of shelter home were arrested later for harassing a number of girls residing at the facility.The case came to light about three months ago when a report by Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) revealed that the inmates of Muzaffarpur shelter home were allegedly abused sexually.

Man lynched in UP over suspicion of being thief

A man was lynched in Bijopur here by a group villagers on the suspicion of being a thief, police said today. The incident took place last evening and a case of murder was registered against several people.Two persons were arrested, Station House Officer (SHO), Chapar, Subhash Rathore said. The deceased was identified as Kapil Tyagi. His family along with others staged a protest and gheraeod the Chapar police station demanding more arrests in the case, the officer said. They claimed that Tyagi was innocent and was beaten to death when he gone to work at Bijopur, Rathore said. The protest was led by former BJP district president Devert Tyagi. A 14-year-old boy was allegedly sodomised by a dhaba owner at a village here, police said today. The boy and his friends had gone to Haridwar during the Kanwar yatra. UP: Gang rape victim tries to commit suicide over alleged police inaction

A 23-year-old gang rape victim allegedly tried to commit suicide over police inaction at a village in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district. The woman attempted to end her life by consuming poison yesterday, Station House Officer (SHO), Jhinjhana, Rajkumar Sharma said. Two people are accused in the case and one of them was arrested yesterday. The woman is undergoing treatment at a hospital, the officer said. Family members claimed that she was upset over the police not taking adequate action against the perpetrators. The woman was raped by the youths on August 5, according to the complaint lodged by her father. He has also alleged that the youths had threatened his daughter with dire consequences if she reported the matter, the SHO said. Sharma said the matter is being investigated and a search had been launched to nab the other accused.

Prison for ex-banker who used data to steal from customers

A former New York City banker who hawked elderly customers' personal identifying information in a scheme to raid their accounts has been sentenced to four years in federal prison. A judge yesterday also ordered Peter Persaud to fork over $17,500 in proceeds from his crimes. Prosecutors say the 28-year-old should pay $12,000 in restitution to ex-employer J.P. Morgan Chase. Persaud pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft in March 2017. His bail was revoked in May 2016 and he was locked up over flight-risk concerns. Prosecutors say Persaud stole customer information and sold it or used it himself from 2011 to 2015, when he was caught trying to sell information on an $180,000 account to an undercover officer. All of his victims were at least 60 years old. Two were over 80.

Man kills eight of his relatives in Albania

A man who shot dead eight of his relatives, including two children, remains on the run and is armed and "dangerous", Albanian police said yesterday. Ridvan Zykaj, 24, shot dead "eight persons from two Zykaj families in Resulaj village," 90 kilometres (55 miles) south of the capital Tirana, the police said in a statement. "After the murder the armed person has left the area," police said, adding that the motive was "still unclear". Police published a photo of the man and asked the public to come forward with any information, warning however that the fugitive "is dangerous" and "should be avoided if seen".
